Good to know. I just received a set but they are still in the box. I'll check when I get home.
I think Mark is right. Looking at the photos above, you can see the "center strip" is considerably recessed from the abutting treads. It certainly appears to be a wear bar. I wouldn't worry about it - it looks like a very effective way of telling you when the tire needs replacement.Mark R. said:I just checked my rear tire from this spring, and it has the same type of wear bars, just off to the side from center. I think it is a wear bar. Once you get down to it, the tire is ready for replacement, and/or it slows down further overall tread wear until you replace the tire. There is enough tread on that tire that you will not notice any difference, IMHO.

Look like they got sone kind of center stripe now ::007:: WTF????
I agree that would be a pretty large wear bar. I was sold on the Mitus 07 before the center bar. Now I'm a bit hesitant. The Heidenau K60 are great off road but I've read a bit sketchy on wet pavement. Not sure if it's due to their center bar. Now I'll be waiting for some reviews to see if I'll be going with these.432Hz said:that does not look like a wear bar in the center. looks like a center strip but a bit recessed.
Not as wide as k60's though, if its there to stay on 07s, although totally unnecessary imo.
thanks for this lesson in tire "code" deciphering. we all know what the yellow stripe means. we are not talking about the yellow stripe. this conversation is about the new center strip in the middle.howie ronic said:E Engler is spot on. The Dakar version of the E-07 comes with a yellow stripe to differentiate it from the regular E-07. Yellow stripe means it has an extra ply on both the side wall and tread. It's a beefier tire, thus the Dakar name. The yellow stripe is a rubberized paint that wears off over time. When ordering, you have to specify if you want the regular or the Dakar. The Dakar costs a few dollars more. It's personal choice. Do you want or need the beef or not. Don't be bummed man, now you can bounce over logs and boulders with confidence knowing those beefy yellow striped Dakars won't let you down. Cheers, Barry
BTW. You can tell the date of tire manufacture by looking at the information molded into the side wall where it gives the tire information. Look for a number that will usually read like 2514 or 4213 or some some such number. The first numbers are the week of the year it was made, the second number is the year. The examples I gave would indicate the first tire 2514, was made in the 25th week of 2014. 4213, 42nd week of 13. Hope this helps.
Thank you.Mark R. said:I use 32 front and 34 rear.
I looking forward to trying them out as well. It will be nice for me to compare them to the K60s. If I have time this weekend, I am going to try to get them mounted.Bushyar15 said:Picking up my set today. Can't wait to try them out!
sorry Bruce, but that's not the case. I'm on my 4th rear mitas, and the center strip is the mid point of wear.BravoBravo said:I think Mark is right.
