I didn't find the Desert tan color all that exciting, but the Cobalt Blue is nice, I remember when the FJR was offered in that color...
As the OP, I did say that the MFK dept had no specs on the 2017 MY from Yamaha, which the tester implied that generally means the end of production line for a vehicle model, and if as he suggested that the engine was not Euro 4 compliant, that made sense. The fact that they are now making the engine Euro 4 compliant in 2017/2018 suggests that something has to give, either further noise or power restrictions........ or both.TheBeast said:So: Why would Yamaha upgrade the S10 to the Euro4 regulations if they plan to drop it in 2018?

It is a fantastic ride and really performs great after a reflash (i have a 13) , but with the competition blowing it out of the water in terms of performance, I cant see how they will sell many at $15500 or whatever US retail price is now. I would just buy a KTM at that price, and the only thing I would miss about the yamaha is the shaft drive.
why do I own a 13 S10 then? because at last years blowout prices, it was the best ADV value ever in the history of ADV bikes and for the roiughly $8500 it cost me to buy it, I could not fathom a better bang for the buck. but $15500? uh,. no
I love my S10, it's the perfect road/traveling bike, but I will admit that when I see something a bit lighter used off-road and on the trails like an AfricaTwin or the new KTM 1090 I makes me want to go a bit smaller/lighter. The S10 does great off-road but it's a heavy beast to handle (exhausting physically).Nissbird said:But will it be shaft drive?
You found the solution...multiple bikes. No one bike does everything extremely well, there's always some concession. In the case of the S10, the concession is weight.gustojunk said:I love my S10, it's the perfect road/traveling bike, but I will admit that when I see something a bit lighter used off-road and on the trails like an AfricaTwin or the new KTM 1090 I makes me want to go a bit smaller/lighter. ...in the meantime I'm considering getting a WR250R as a little sister to my S10. Both with matching blue dresses )
You are right Joe, that might be by far the best solution. I think once I get a wr250 I will be the happiest when I reach to either bike for its job. ...But for most people the price, insurance, maintenance, space needed for multiple bikes is not practical, and Yamaha's competition is capitalizing on this. It will be interesting to see how/if/ the 'lighter adventure' market grows. My guess is that it will be a big success.JRE said:You found the solution...multiple bikes. I agree, it's awesome not not have to do chain maintenance.RonH said:Lighter weight would not hurt, but can't get rid of shaft drive.
Valid viewpoint, but I can tell you I would have never bought my S10 if had no ABS. of course I rather have manually switchable ABS, but I rather take ABS always than no ABS.RonH said:Don't contribute to ruining motorcycles by wanting a DCT. Agreed. We need to bring back total loss oiling systems, manual spark advance and leather belt drive too. Oh and let's not forget about acetylene lighting while we're at it!RonH said:Lighter weight would not hurt, but can't get rid of shaft drive. Please kill the dual clutch idea before motorcycles are ruined by lazy like cars/trucks. I guess for me not all bad, I used to buy a new truck every few years, now since all are automatic, I buy a new truck never and will die with my 1997 model even if I live 50 more years.Don't contribute to ruining motorcycles by wanting a DCT. 2017 model is already out there (check out the US and EU Yamaha websites). Except for bold colours and graphics, the S10 remains unchanged yet another year.dcstrom said:I hear there's a pre-production 2017 Super Tenere around these parts... so for people who know about these things... would they have a pre-prod model if they weren't changing anything substantial? It could be just like a preview bike I guess. But if they changed something substantial, that would seem to indicate that the S10 has some time left yet!
