Spent last night just north of Durango on the river just off 550. Nice place. (River Side RV Park). We will be at the Ouray KOA by noon today. The weather is great. ::008::

Ship care packages ahead of your route, hotels, General Delivery... Also ship the chit home you've found to be pointless. Y'all ain't pulling a trailer...
+1 on the care package. This will save your hair and your marriage.. ::025::
Also, when you leave on the first day, wear all old under clothes and t shirts and socks. Toss those the first night. It really does save space. ::024::

TacoPapa,
Many of the pictures of the blue Tenere on the first page of this thread are of my trips last summer.
Unloaded, the Tenere is very will balanced and able to do most of the passes in Colorado. I even did Imogene, and Black Bear.
But would never do Black Bear on the Tenere again. I was way over my head on that pass, but came down unscathed. ::008::
It is best to do these passes with other riders, as the Tenere is a bitch to pick up while it is facing down a hill DAMHIK ;)

Have a safe ride, and enjoy yourself!

That's why I love you man. You salty ole dogs know how to do this stuff.

I have to travel a lot at times and I carry a KTM backpack for luggage. Coworkers always ask where is your suitcase?
I tell them I have jeans and a shirt or two with my laptop in the backpack. I buy underwear and socks at Walmart. Leave them at my destination.

Bart, thanks for the words; I'll check out your pics. I'm amazed you did Black Bear on the Tenere -- my boys, both good dirt riders, did it couple years ago on a KTM 450 & XR250,& said it was really a challenge (they had to pick their way through a landslide). Anyhow, I'm riding solo & heavy (cans & camp gear) this trip & like to avoid dropping it. Definitely looking forward to the ride -- See you in Ouray! -- Mike

Yea buddy, that's the way to do it. Buying the essentials at Walmart is so inexpensive compared to everything else.
How do ya think Bronson did it.. ::025::

Have a safe trip!!!

Just got back from Tellico Plains TN/Dallas TX trip and decompressing a bit. My, but it's hot out there... Here too, but according to the WX, Ouray should be a bit cooler (or less hot).
Looking forward to seeing all those SuperTeneres and hope to meet some of you guys and gals. I'll be camped down by the river (or so they tell me) at the KOA. If anyone cares to meet and greet, I'll be camping in my Aspen Classic M/C camper with my trusty Titanium GL1800 (the Titanic) nearby and ready for on road action - none of that offroad stuff for me. Taking off for Ouray on Monday and plan to stay the week. Looks like a short 350 mile ride from Denver.
I was looking for wildfire updates, but no joy for now. I think that part of Colorado is not on fire as I write this.
Looking forward to meeting up with my pal Don from Lodi and getting an update on the condition of my 'old' SuperTenere from tpak. I think you were the one who bought it, correct? Told me you were going to break it in right ???
See you all there.
p.s. I'll be the old fat guy with hi-viz jacket...
p.p.s. I was told I am in spot number five.

THIS JUST IN - WILDFIRE

The town of South Fork has been evacuated (all four hundred of them). According to the news highway 160 is shut down. There is a good chance that the town will be totally destroyed. :'(
A bit about the fire here: http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/state-news/south-fork-evacuated-due-to-west-fire-complex-fire
I spoke to the KOA this AM and she said there were no fires near Ouray. Highway 550 is probably the best bet approaching Ouray from the north (IMHO).

That is really a shame.. I use to stop at a little motel in that area every time I was in CO and it is not looking good for that place. It looks like it may hit 149 and that is one of the best roads in the fall, for color and riding.

This is a bad year for fires and we are not even into the worst part yet. Between the Bark Beatles and the fires there won't be much green left.

We are in Durango tonight. The weather is sunny and about 80 durring the day. We have spoke to people that say all the passes are open and clear. We are heading over to Utah tomorrow to ride off road for a few days and then pull into Ouray. I hope everyone brings a seat belt, this is going to be an awesome week of ADV riding. Looking forward to meeting everyone of you. Be safe out there.

That may put a damper on some of the routes.
We have to go through south fork, on one of the paved rides to get to Lake City.
The southwest is just burning up, again, with fires.

There is usually a way http://goo.gl/maps/tyxvT . Now you need to add some legs to the route. Thee should be a bunch of out-n-backs and loops along the way. Darn I wish I was up to this trip.

Re: The BIG COLORADO 2013 summer gathering !

I looks like you guys are going to have to party without me in CO. I was riding in the mountains south west of Provo UT and tipped my bike over. It landed on my leg and I ended up with a broken ankle. Now I am working on a way to get my self and bike back to Oregon.

Re: The BIG COLORADO 2013 summer gathering !

Yep, I'll likely be here in Utah till Sunday helping Ryan get the bike off the mountain. Gonna abandon the Moab portion of the trip, but I should still be in Ouray on Monday.

Not sure how the general camping works, but Ryan and I were splitting a camp spot, so that's now available to share with someone. We can probably sort that out on Monday.

Should make for a good campfire story!

See you guys in a couple days.
