Tallgears and I made it to NM last night. What a great day of riding. :). On the way to Amarillo we ran into a monster storm for about two hours. No big deal, do-te-do..... Now we have done 100* heat for a few hours. No problem...... Then holy shnike, we the get blasted with crazy cross winds in NM riding though a wall of blowing dirt. Not dust, dirt. Lol
After 100 + miles of sand blasting we pull over to get gas, we pull into to a truck stop and it's packed. There are about 30-40 people looking in the same direction. I ask, what are you guys looking at. They said, the tornado ( next to the highway we just got off) we hang there and clean the dirt out of our eyes, nose, and keep heading west out to Buellagans house in the blasting wind.
We get to beullagans place and he is a great host. Off to see NM and UT today. :)
No Pics???? Come on dude, we need to see what's going on.. ::025::

The BIG COLORADO 2013 summer gathering !

Can't even concentrate today at work. Leaving tomorrow at 0630, with an hour or so lay over in New Braunsfels, then three sisters to Sonora Tx. Day two to Albuquerque, NM, Day 3 to Ouray. Shoot me a PM if any of you are traveling the same routes.

Coastie,
I'm in Albuquerque and just put up Jaxon and Steve as they were passing through.
I'm leaving Sunday morning for Cortez, then the BDR on Monday.
Will be at the KOA Monday night.
You are welcome to stop by as you pass through 'querque

I second that japako!

Aren't these some of the same guys razzing me about my camera choice? :)

Least I will have PROOF I been there done that! Lol

Be safe guys. Sounds like a lot of "adventures" have gotten underway.

The only have a few dedicated tent spots with numbers. If you are tent camping and did not get a number, you are in the general camping area.
Good to know.

I like your route but might be over my skill level.

Many months ago I asked about the same route from Lake City and did not get confident responses. If you decide not to take that route you could take the longer simpler route to Silverton http://goo.gl/maps/VrrnA
Thanks for the alternate route, Tomatocity -- Think I'll take a look at mine, & if it looks unworkable at the west end I'll backtrack & take yours.

TacoPapa,
I did the loop in both directions last year twice on my Tenere.
Once loaded. No problems at all the Tenere handled it all well.
Ride on!
Buelligan, you just gave me a bunch of confidence. We'll give it a try!

I just talked with a rider at Davis Service Center who's familiar with the Engineer Pass & Cinnamon Pass routes. He doesn't recommend the Engineer route on the ST ... but sounds like Lake City - Cinnamon Pass - Animas Forks - Hurricane Pass - Ironton site to 550 should be fine.

Ugh...last minute preps. Hitting the road at 4am. I'm gonna try to beat the heat on my way to Amarillo. Some of the heat anyways.
Ugh, yea I just finished a 12 hour work day! Still need food, and have yet to do some laundry, pack, and clean this place up. I'm heading out about 0630 myself.

I've been creating a "pile" on the floor of everything that goes.
I'm packing for a month on the road. And 2-up. And potential night "fashion" attire for an occasion we might attend.
And camping............

It's an intimidating mountain.

Come 6AM my Tenere will be converted to an XT1200ZF350

Destined to be epic!

Turning the mountains over to you all. Spent the day on various passes around Silverton on an ATV. What a great time and beautiful scenery.
Headed back towards home tomorrow. You guys be safe.

We are in Durango tonight. The weather is sunny and about 80 durring the day. We have spoke to people that say all the passes are open and clear. We are heading over to Utah tomorrow to ride off road for a few days and then pull into Ouray. I hope everyone brings a seat belt, this is going to be an awesome week of ADV riding. Looking forward to meeting everyone of you. Be safe out there.
