You lucky dogs!!! COTA??? Are you kidding me? I would if I could, unfortunately the ADV Gods have spoken and plans changed. A shakedown ride yesterday revealed a leaking final drive and no way in hades am I going cross Country with that dribbling on my rear tire. Dan's was leaking last weekend as well so he has bailed on the trip. Whodathunk both bikes with FD seal failures just before a long journey. Oh, well... God's will I guess.

Say it ain't so, Baldknob!!!

You and Icecold Dan both? That sincerely is sad news.

I figured you two guys would have a shot at the "Most Miles Traveled" to the ride, depending on your route! ;)

You sure you guys don't wanna' chance it? IIRC there are numerous owners who have ridden thousands and thousands of miles with weeping final drive seals, and with no ill effects. I think Sail2xxs has gone a long, long ways with a seal leak. Seems they leak a bit, but never get any worse, and I don't think there have been any final drive failures related to a seal leak.

Hope you change your mind and try and make it! Sorry this has thrown a kink in your plans! :(

If not this ride I hope we get a chance to try again someday soon.

If the seals don't arrive today, I'm riding anyways. :)
Of course mine have leaked on and off for the last 20,000 miles.
Looks way worse than it is. Never even need to add fluid.
But I'm in Texas. So I will only be about 4 or 5 hours from home. :)

Oh, Dallara, as for me planning routes.........
I'm the worst "planner" of anything related to riding. In fact, riding is my escape from planning!
There is nothing more unstructured than me with a helmet on. I'm totally unpredictable.
(in real life, I'm the opposite. Boring and predictable as heck)

Sorry if I'm letting you down bro. I promise I am grateful that you and many others around here are more willing and able.
I'm a worthless rally leach. :)

Mine started leaking Saturday on the way back from the Yamaha dealer that's an hour and a half away. We pulled the wheel, checked it out and cleaned it up but it has continued to get worse. I was going to chance it but when Mike's sprung a serious leak on his shakedown ride yesterday we made the tough decision to call it because none of the 3 dealers within 3 hours of us had parts in stock. Overnight delivery would mean parts on Thursday and start ride on Friday. That just doesn't make sense. If it wasn't 1500 miles plus it might be a different story. Mike's is leaking where the swingarm meets the pumpkin, and mine is from the pumpkin to the wheel. Both coating the wheel pretty good with oil. Not the safest scenario. No one is more upset then we are. We have been looking forward to this for months.

Damn! That well and truly is a bummer of epic proportions! :(

But I can certainly understand, as I am sure the rest of the group will. Still really sorry you guys won't make it and we won't get a chance to meet you both!

Hopefully there will be another chance to do so one day soon! ::003::

Take care, guys!

That truly sucks.
Mine "seeped" from the join at the swing arm and pumpkin. Like I said, for thousands of miles. But recently it progressed to leaking from the pumpkin into the wheel.
Those freaking seals are special order too. My dealer was shocked they hadn't come in last week. I haven't checked this morning to see if they arrived yesterday or today. If they haven't, I'm gonna have a filthy sticky grimy wheel this weekend. :)
If she blows up, I'm stealing Combos Tenere to get home. Lol

Unfortunately I have to report that I'm out. My optimistic side was telling me I could get all this work and homework done by Thursday, but there's no way it can be done with the way this week has been going.

Really bummed, but I'll see you all again soon hopefully.

P.S.

That parade lap sounds awesome, especially since I've already received my tickets for the race in the mail.. Wife bought me tickets for Christmas ::008::

Dude, I was looking forward to seeing ya. Especially after missing the Big Bend rally.
Chemistry? English lit? Bovine diseases? What subject? We can tutor you at night! Bring your books. :)

Geez, more bad news!!! :(

Sorry to hear that, Tallgears! Hope things change and you can make a late start and still make it.

Seems like we're losing riders like flies... But I am happy to report that the same "3rd Coast Ducati" group I rode with last year this time of year is still going to be there at the Y.O. with us, so there will still be plenty of folks to ride with. The "3rd Coast Ducati" group is really a great bunch of folks, and there being there the same weekend is one of the reasons I was glad we decided on this weekend last fall. Lots of Multistrada's in their group, and there were even a couple of BMW G/S's with 'em last year, along with the tons of 1098's, 898's, 999's, Monster's, etc. - and Ronnie Lunsford's classic Honda CB900F was true eye-candy. Lots of good riders in that group, too, with a few being old road racers... ;)

Point is, it's terrible we've had some folks have to drop out, but there are still gonna' be plenty of Super Tenere's there, and plenty more riders on other brands to meet and ride with, too! ::012::

I can't wait! ::001::

Lol... I know! Big bend didn't work out for work travel reasons, this week another Go-Live at a hospital has been crazy.

As far as subject matter.. it might be more up your alley than chemistry would be anyway :p It's a class over Oracle Relational Databases and another on web development.

I hope the weather stays nice for everyone, especially since some out of state folks are showing up.

Looks like I have to bow out. My wife had surgery last week and I had hoped she'd be far enough along in her recovery that I could sneak off for the weekend, but that's not the case. I was really looking forward to meeting you all but that'll have to wait for another day. Y'all have fun and here's to hoping you have a safe , ( and dry) good time.

Seating in little rock trying to get a new tire on, new k60 rear ran over something and punctured it before I could get out of the traffic I guess the cords shifted. Plugged it and rode 70 miles to little rock honda yahama dealer with it shaking my teeth out, but made it.
Luckily they had ordered a cont. street tire for another super tenere owner who was willing to give it up to allow me to get to texas. Who ever it was thanks a lot If your on this forum. Street tire on rear k60 on front but I am rolling

Sorry so many have to bail out on this trip but I do have some good news! I put together an awesome dirt trip about 80-100 miles or so riding north of Kerrville and then back south towards Fredricksburg. There is a reroute for the northerners to head home instead of south to Fburg. We could do the whole thing on Sat and then Austin GP on Sunday. As Allan said, we can keep this a loose weekend cause I'm tired of people telling me where to go,when to go and how to get there !!!!My goose bumps are getting bigger.!!!

Good job hodee!
Ok, my seal didn't come in. But my tech supplied me with a seal repair kit and told me to go ride. (I basically have his blessing)

I will be happy to share with you other leakers and weepers. This IS a Yamaha. :)

I wonder if I should inject some of that "holy lube" into my bike as a "vaccination preventative" I was gonna say inject into my rearend but that just didn't sound right!
Here is the dirt route if I can get it to post.
