Reading through the threads, it looks like most everyone really likes their Tenere. However, nothing is perfect.
The question is:
If the engineers could change/redesign one thing on your Tenere what would that be? -JEP-

Weight for one.
Then add two more gallons to the tank.
Small stuff, grease fittings to the steering head and swing arm joint.

Oh, and shoot the Yamaha corporate bean counters. ::024::

a seat that actually is comfortable for hours of riding....they know about the slope, how hard is that?

A bigger tank would be nice but I would still find a way to push those limits so that's just a personal issue I need to deal with lol.

Only 2 things come to mind for me now that they did so much in the '14 version.

Secure the rear hub to the wheel, Honda did that with the ST1300 w/ a big c clip and would make tire changes faster, or better yet a single sided swingarm would be very nice.

An option for non-spooked wheels for us posers.

I've only been riding mine for just a few weeks.
What really surprised me and a feature that I do NOT like is the gear indicator.
When the clutch is in I get a straight bar that I guess lets me know that my clutch is not engaged. I mean DUH, what were they thinking? ???
It sure would be nice if I knew what gear I was in like all other previous bikes that I'v owned have done!

Joe - What's a spooked wheel?
Got ghosts in your bike? ;)

Keeping to your request of ONE Thing…

Wish they would have designed it as a 50/50 motorcycle instead of the 80/20…

Yeah this is "one thing" which would encompass weight, fuel range, power, clearance, ability to shut off ABS, etc…. :)

Come out of the shop to deal with rider heavier than 170-180 lbs along with luggage etc.

As Ramseybells said, grease fittings in key places would make this a true low maintenance bike. Well at least make some maintenance super easy to perform....

Almost all of my riding is on the payment so a different motor would be my choice, maybe the triple from the FZ/FJ-09.
Of course more full range, 8 gallons would be good.

Mellow, I'm with you on the non-spoked wheel and securing the hub to the wheel. The FJR has a tin plate with tiny screws that do that. I mimicked that, albeit more crudely, for my S10.

I just love it the way it is, I like the OEM seat since we are all different, ergonomics are configurable. Everything else is on charge of the accessories.

One thing to change/add a switch to change TC on the fly.

One example of how different we are, as opposed to Mellow's wish of a single sided swing arm, if the Super Ténéré had that option when I bought mine, I would never bought it. If the BMW GS didn't have one I would have looked more into it.

Very little, really. They have to pick a target and aim at it.
Example, if you make it "lighter", you can't have that pack mule rugged frame, sub-frame, drive shaft, and "bigger tank".

I'm still amazed at how well done even the original release bike was done.

But, if I could have them change one thing, I guess the rear shock could have been designed to match the 450lb cargo capacity of the bike. Cuz it just doesn't, in my opinion.

Still, an amazing platform to build a REAL RTW bike from. I don't know of one better.

I agree that this would be useful at times when riding off road. The R1 has 7 or 8 levels of TC and you can change them on the fly. Still have to stop to turn it off, but that's ok.

I would trade that for the gear indicator that they thoughtfully added in 2014 for folks that couldn't tell which gear they were in without looking down at the dash. I could do without it just like on all the other bikes I have had.

Hi Jim. ;D

I would also like the slope of the seat eliminated. At first I thought the seat was pretty good but as the miles add up the forward slope has become a real nut buster.

That would be good, or at least let it stay in the last mode. I'm so accustom to stopping to turn it off when I hit the dirt that I find myself wanting to stop the DR and reset something when I transition to the dirt.

Allow me to change my answer.....

My one thing would be a lower 1st gear to facilitate making up a steep trail at 8 mph or so without lugging.
