Fellow Riders,
Has anyone heard of "Telescopic Side Stand". Like a spring loaded lock system.
It would be a great parking aid on uneven parking lots or areas. Sometimes the bike would lean too much or not enough. I frequently run into this.
Your thoughts, ideas are welcome.
Thanks

I’ve been talking to a company called Swift Kicker. Allegedly they have a prototype for the Super Ténéré but they’d like to see serious interest from at least 10 purchasers to put it into production. If enough of us inquire perhaps they’ll start making them?

I'm not gonna lie, it's super cool... but I don't know if it's $220 cool.

I guess if you have to choose between a kick stand and a center stand then $220 is a deal AND you save weight by not having the center stand. But when the ground or grade is questionable I use my center stand and distribute the load across two legs instead of one. Never a worry about it falling over.
Side note: I've had my side stand sink into asphalt in the hot summer heat and found my bike almost ready to tip over because of it... never had that issue on my center stand. As far as I know, all S10s came with a center stand so why not use it in this instance?

BTW, I know it's different if you are on the trail and need to use your side stand, but that wasn't the impression I got from the OP's post. If this is about having options for all conditions then, again, it might be worth it.

The center stand is fine, but at least for me I have to have the bike stable on the side stand first when I climb off.

I put mine on the centerstand on some soft dirt when I first got my S10. When I came back. It was down on the right side. My windshield missed a tree by inches. The arm you put your foot on to get it up on the centerstand keeps it from sinking evenly.

I don't have any issue with center stands and i use them whenever possible. However, i am more concerned about is the initial approach. If my feet don't reach the ground then i am screwed. In that case, telescopic stand seems like a good idea. But i wonder if that can handle the weight of the XT1200.

That makes perfect sense.
For what it's worth, I wasn't arguing against the idea of a telescoping kickstand, just my frugal nature recoiling at the price tag.
I sometimes forget that we riders come in all shapes and sizes and that a solution like that is a great value for those who have a need.

Thinking about jb weld and a scrap of wood or metal glued to the bottom. If I really want to get ambitious tap some threads and bolt some thing to the bottom counter sunk of course .

That doesn't necessarily fix the uneven ground issue per se. I mean, it addresses the short kickstand issue via a permanent attachment, but it's not really adjustable.
T-Rex racing sells an adjustable kickstand pretty cheap. But it's not "on the fly" adjustable like the one linked above.

That one from T-Rex looks good and it's not that expensive. This one looks to be available too.
I would go for the one from T-Rex. Bigger footprint and a better price. I am surprised that ride off center stands are not a common ADV bike farkle. Surely some of you guys remember the Reynolds ride off stands for the BMW airheads. I have seen them on some Gold Wings too.

I saw a discussion once, I think on this Forum, where someone attached a hockey puck to the sidestand foot to make a bigger contact patch and to help the bike not lean so far. I bought a puck but never got around to mounting it because I got a good deal on a used Altrider foot extender. You might want to search the forum for that discussion.
