But when the tax man, property or plates, comes, you probably have 2 more to pay for than last year!snakebitten said:From my perspective, things cost more now than they used to. So my initial take is no different than everyone else's.
Actually, what drives me crazy are the utility trailers and vehicles that relatives are driving that I'm title holder. 5 trailers. I use 1 of them primarily. It's just my fave. But each trailer fits specific jobs and folks are always borrowing. So I keep them up to date.BigBob said:But when the tax man, property or plates, comes, you probably have 2 more to pay for than last year!
I feel you. I've got four cars and just one motorcycle. Used to have two or three bikes. Paying for registration every year and for smog every other year should feed four or five families of Mexicans for at least six months.hawk281 said:I live here in the empire of California and I have five vehicles that have to be registered, my wallet is in great pain. I hate this place, can not get the wife to move. Maybe they will start taxing quilting and we will be out of here in a heartbeat.
Yeah, I've heard that people of Haiti are far worse off than most.Dogdaze said:The way to to think of it is like this, there will always be someone else that is far worse off than you. I know in a world of 'me' that sometimes is hard to process, but once you do that, things will feel easier to accept, not saying that it is right, but unless you are extremely wealthy and or powerful there is not a great deal you can do about. I do make light of it, but what else should one do if you are not able to effect a change?
And most likely counties will increase their gas tax, to coincide.WJBertrand said:It's a property tax essentially and that part is deductible on your tax return. Hold on tight though as it's going to get worse. Governor Moonbeam, without voter approval, pushed through both a gas tax increase of 12 cents a gallon as well as an increase on the vehicle registration tax that will amount to $25 to $175 depending on the value of the vehicle. The gas tax kicks in tomorrow (Nov 1) Purportedly to fix roads, but most think it's really a ploy to pay for his crazy pet high speed train project. Not sure when the registration fee takes effect.

AGAIN, you generated a big grin on my face.
I hope any of my posts regarding this subject still leaves room for supporting your way of viewing these things.
People always think the grass is greener on the other side. There are good reasons why California is the most populated state and by far has the largest GDP/economy. It has much to offer not found elsewhere and is a very well rounded package.WJBertrand said:I've met a few folks from other states that say yeah, California is expensive but it's worth every penny. So on the plus side the state does have a lot to offer and those of us who've mostly grown up here we tend to take a lot for granted. For those that have never lived/visited here they cannot appreciate the up side.
Thank you! Much appreciated. That is the reason I come to this forum instead of Advrider and the like.Checkswrecks said:The pruning shears are out of the shed.
There are other places to go off onto a political rant.

Although my last post was neither political or a rant so not sure why it got nuked instead of just pruning the quote. It was about motorcycles and motorcycle riding opportunities in the state.
That sir... is very hard to argue. Definitely one thing I miss.Checkswrecks said:Basically because hitting delete takes less of my time than modifying.
Cali is indeed motorcycle nirvana.
I always called it an "embarrassment of riches" when it came to motorcycling roads. I still get back to the state for the dunes as well, but I don't regret leaving at all.Checkswrecks said:Basically because hitting delete takes less of my time than modifying.
