No not a comment for you at all and nothing to do with what you posted.

It was a comment in general for those that wanted to hijack this thread and spin it into a "me vs them", "right vs wrong" issue.

In these difficult matters, I don't think is is possible with "right" and "wrong".
Only different path to the same goal...

I seldom log in and post anymore. Not that I did much of it anyway. But, here it goes.

I live in CA and agree with the negative comments I read about it, including the origin of this thread on license fees. I am WAY up north away from the big cities and just don't want there way of life imposed on me. There are many who feel the same way (including areas of southern Oregon). I dream of the State of Jefferson, look it up if your curious. Otherwise, my plan is to retire elsewhere when it's time, I'm 51 now.

On another note, if your still reading Madhatter, I agree with your earlier post. Experienced myself, hence why seldom logging in. Sure there is nobody who misses me. AND...the first mention of anything politically is on page two.

I'm out. Peace to all.

But the problem was what he posted painted the state and EVERY person in the state with a single brushstroke. What he doesn't realize is that there were almost as many Californians voting for his presidential candidate as there was Texans voting for him! Yes true look it up. But yet he dismisses those nearly 5 million CA voters/political allies (possibly including yourself) and calls them the same names as the opposing party. Look at the voting maps of CA and Texas and compare them. It is very telling and very similar. The urban sprawl areas versus the remainder of the state. That is how the voting by each party came out. The urban sprawl in Texas is growing and trending similar to CA so probably only a decade away it will prevail the same with the higher percentage of statewide voters.

This NOT a political post, just an interesting fact. (to me) Many Californians, New Yorkers, and others from high income/taxed states, are retiring to Texas. Many retirements are based on your career wages. Those retirement checks will go MUCH further in Texas, than the original states due to our relatively low cost of living. For better, or worse, it likely means the way the state votes as a whole will change. It doesn't matter to me....our votes are our own business. I just wish the "new" Texans would be a little more friendly....relax....say "hi".

Been in Texas 60 years. I assure you, we have ALL kinds of folks. In fact, the Houston "area" might be the most diverse spot in all of America. There are studies that claim such.
But for whatever reason, the fuse is a bit longer "per capita". It's like there's less outrage over stuff they tell us is outrageous? Lol
Don't know why. It's all theory. But there might be something to the lower cost, more room if you want it, and awesome weather, OTHER than 3 months of miserable summer heat.

Maybe you're right and it won't last forever. But I'm old and living the ending chapters on this book. I've got so little to complain about. Feel guilty about it more than anything else. :)

First, my heart goes out to the ones affected by the recent shooting in Texas. I have spent two months this year riding around Texas, and small towns like that are truly enjoyable to ride through and meet the local residents. Smiles, and friendly waves from everyone.

Depending on what research you look at, it can be up to 39% cheaper (housing being the major contributor) to live in Texas from where I am in the Los Angeles area. With the way California is, the disparity only going to get more (worse).

And how the heck do you expect any of the "new" Texans to be more friendly if they have to deal with DFW traffic, or the 35 through Waco. :)

::025:: Absolutely! If I'm going to travel south, I use TX-281. Less traffic/congestion/construction, MUCH prettier drive, and quicker to get to San Antonio and points south. But, depending on your starting location, it may be too far out of the way to the west. The "less friendly" I was referring to was in stores and restaurants, where "please" and "thank you" is seldom heard. ::001::

fees (taxes) in some states are higher than fees (taxes) in other states..... a rich man can own a super tenere as well as a lower middle class man or even someone who might be poor. the fees (taxes ) for the bike are the same for all in the state they share.... just not as easy for the less well off man to pay the fee (taxes) .....

Cuz I already get the heebygeezies coming into the lounge. I stayed outta here for the first 5 or 6 years. It's kind of like walking around in a minefield?

+1
I still stay out. Only here because I clicked on a m/c related topic. Only after my second post did I realize it was in an off topic forum where almost anything goes. Thread probably should have been moved to appropriate forum.

Very timely for me and back on topic. Picked up an old bike yesterday. Original title, title application and registrations from '71 and '72 were included.

$5.30 annual registration paid for each year.
4% sales tax ($20.88) paid on dealer price of $522.00

Those were the days.
