Just received my registration renewal for the Super T (2012 model) and I am very surprised to find out that I owe $189.00 to the idiotic state I live in.
There is a license fee of $43.00 on top of the $135.00 registration fee that I am curious to know what is for.
I didn't pay anything like that last year, or any of the years before that. They say it may be an income deduction.
Wow, what an important and significant deduction that is!
Can anyone enlighten me?

Oh, and in Ohio if you don''t renew your tags within 2 weeks of your birthdate they charge you an extra $20 late fee PER VEHICLE! Taxation without representation.

I shall refrain from laughing, as it's all relative I guess? I have a low CO2 Nissan X-Trail, yet my 'road tax' is nearly $800 per year, The bike costs about $300. So while I get it, someone has to pay for upkeep of the roads, certainly not the super rich........

Here is WI it is $23.....and it is good for 2 years. I won't complain. That sort of makes up for the fact we can only ride 7-8 months out of the year.

Part of why I moved to Texas 5 months ago. Just all the painful expenses. Good luck.

Just one of the many reasons I am glad I missed the off ramp in Vegas and ended up in Minnesota......the locals find it hard to believe there are states in the USA with higher taxes but it is true.

It's a property tax essentially and that part is deductible on your tax return. Hold on tight though as it's going to get worse. Governor Moonbeam, without voter approval, pushed through both a gas tax increase of 12 cents a gallon as well as an increase on the vehicle registration tax that will amount to $25 to $175 depending on the value of the vehicle. The gas tax kicks in tomorrow (Nov 1) Purportedly to fix roads, but most think it's really a ploy to pay for his crazy pet high speed train project. Not sure when the registration fee takes effect.

Crap, I paid $109 registration fee on my '13 in California for this year. Mine is up in January, so waiting to bend over. Along with the additional gas tax starting tomorrow. The diesel tax is going up 20 cents a gallon.

Oh - here is the new (in addition to what you already pay) tax for vehicle registration:

Value Fee

Up to$4,999 - $25

$5,000-$24,999 - $50

$25,000-$34,999 - $100

$35,000-$59,999 - $150

$60,000 and up - $175

The fee will be adjusted for inflation beginning Jan. 1, 2020.

My diesel p/u truck is the additional $150 range. ::010:: Glad I am moving out of California next year.

I will no longer be bitchin' about the summer heat here. The registration for my bike and Jeep is about $75 each, and no state income tax. And we have a 12 month riding season; January & February MIGHT be a partial month at worst. ::012::

Vehicle value should decrease over time, so I think the tax is based on current value, not what you paid when new. The inflation factor referred to is an excuse for the state to charge taxes based on a slower rate of depreciation than is really the case. Pisses me off....

Ya annual registration fees suck. Mine are $150.00 per year------------------------------for six bikes. $25.00 per bike but we can only ride for like four months in ND.

I'd like to thank to each and everyone of you that had taken the time to reply to my post.
A lot of disgruntled riders out there but for a good reason. In the last year alone it hasn't been one month in which some increase of some kind not to take place.
From water, to natural gas, to electricity, to stinking cable bill, and the list could go on and on forever.
What an awful state led by abject communist that masquerade as people loving political personalities.
But in a state that the elected governor lived with his mom and dad at the age of 50, everything is possible!
Wish I could get out but at this point in my life it would be almost impossible to do so. I wish that wouldn't be the case but it is, unfortunately...

The way to to think of it is like this, there will always be someone else that is far worse off than you. I know in a world of 'me' that sometimes is hard to process, but once you do that, things will feel easier to accept, not saying that it is right, but unless you are extremely wealthy and or powerful there is not a great deal you can do about. I do make light of it, but what else should one do if you are not able to effect a change?

Maryland is also a pretty expensive State but I think Colorado hits vehicle owners harder than anywhere else in the US.

I gave up on thinking it's a left wing or right wing thing, as illustrated by the current Republican Administration and Congress pushing a new Federal gas tax hike to fund infrastructure. Because it is from Federal tax, this "infrastructure" proposal includes Trump's wall to get past all the States which don't support it, and includes other big spending which has nothing to do with actual infrastructure.

We're still fortunate throughout the US. There are European and Asian countries which annually crush owners with their taxes on roads, ownership, gas, etc.

[Even though it's in the lounge, let's keep this thread from de-railing into partisan bickering. The pruning shears come out when folks go there.
Thanks

In Kentucky the total for my registration on a 13 model was $126 last year. Goes down every year along with the value of the bike.

I love your wisdom! And that is what I consider it....wisdom.

I've lived in the coastal area of Texas for 6 decades. I wouldn't know if I'm getting a good deal or not if it weren't for the constant comparisons that are published like these.
From my perspective, things cost more now than they used to. So my initial take is no different than everyone else's. But then, as you say, with little effort I find that "there will always be someone else that is far worse off than me".

Happens every time. (well, almost)

I've met a few folks from other states that say yeah, California is expensive but it's worth every penny. So on the plus side the state does have a lot to offer and those of us who've mostly grown up here we tend to take a lot for granted. For those that have never lived/visited here they cannot appreciate the up side.
