I'm not organizing anything.
These are just suggestions
If anyone would rather have it at Deals Gap ,Moab, Or. Marble Falls speak up. You won't be stepping on my toes.
I'm the most disorganized guy there is.
I could be packed and ready to make the trip and my granddaughter call me up and say "Papa can you come over?" and I'd be off in another direction
I would like to hear more options , It's still early..
I "organized/hosted" a rally for 6 years, The Cache Gathering. I called it a "No Frills Rally" meaning; come, ride, BS at night, repeat. - We got together for dinners, sat around in the campground and bench raced at nigh, and rode during the day. The Cache Gathering btw is still happening - this year in Kamiah, Idaho June 21 - 25 any or all of the days you want.

My point is this: Pick a gathering spot, Pick a date, Make an announcement - and voila it is 'organized'.

Agree with that. Was not impressed, although I think they need more signs on the highway, and surrounding area...

I’ll be the odd man out, I like the place but it’s probably because of my past. When I was just probably 10 dad use to swing by on our motorcycle tours. So I have fond memories there. Back then it was different experience and I was a starry eye kid blown away by the jackalops and all the life size people and toys. Just a great place for a boy with an imagination.

Not a pic from then but the same time in my life. Things were different back then.

Nothing wrong with nostalgia. We all have it for some thing, some place, some sound, or even some smell. Easy to see how a 10 year old would view Wall Drug very differently from a 54 year old seeing it for the first time.

Oh for sure. Memories are memories no matter where you forge them!

I was mostly just ranting because the last two times i drove from chicago to seattle the sheer number of those billboards blew my mind.

Hmmmm....maybe on the wrong side of the forum
Someone mentioned Wall Drug.
I've been there on our way back from Oregon, back in the ninteys.
Signs Signs and signs and then more signs...then finally there it was, WALL DRUG...or drugs...I never did drugs...we stopped, had a look about and then back on the road agin...
Long way to Canada from there, South Dakota I think??
Sadly, we were driving in a cage...
Love to ride my bike to the west coast, but not for now.

I propose (to get the ball rolling ) we call this "the gathering " . that we gather in June 2021 in deadwood South Dakota on these dates ,June 25 26 and 27th . that's a Friday Saturday and Sunday . there is no way to predict what will be going on in this nation 6 months from now , so each person would have to decide their risk as far as c-19 is concerned . hard to know how many would make the trek , but for me I plan on riding if all works out ( lots of stuff in life can get in the way for any of us ) ,but since this is not an organized ride you don't have to sign up or send money in , just show up if you can . just need a central camping ,stay at place open to travelers in spite of the pandemic . by may of 2021 we will all understand what we are able and willing to do .
neemo guest ranch looks cool but its by google maps away from town somewhat. maybe there is something closer in town that could serve our 'gathering '.
these are just suggestions .

I think there is a KOA in Deadwood. Gathering sounds great!
Everyone needs to add some dates and places and we can get a poll up.

The week of June 21-27 is a popular time for rallies. Three others scheduled for that time. Can we pick another date?
Also during June, anyone riding from the west coast may encounter snow when crossing the Rockies. That was the case for us, late June 2019. July or September may be the better choice.

And may I suggest Belle Fourche SD and Wyatt's campground ( http://www.wyattshideaway.com ) rather than Deadwood. Unless you want to gamble or buy an expensive tee shirt there no reason to be in Deadwood

the weekend before the date I suggest is fathers day weekend ..... I'm ok with any date , think June the weather should be nice there . June 4 5 and 6 is good and 11 12 and 13 is also. most may want to be around the house come fathers day so 18 19 and 20 might not work for most .
100 men trying to pick a date , hearding cats may be easier . for us southern riders July august September its the heat we have to deal with . leaving Buda Texas in august it will be high 90's low 100's . even September is a scorcher here. my route would be almost straight north , Oklahoma Kansas Colorado all in the Great Plains , hot ride I think .
that's the crux of the problem is picking a date any date that will please most . I have no idea what might interfere with a trip this far out so any date is plausible or possible . and then (I've never been to South Dakota , so I don't no one good place from another ) having a place to gather as a group to camp and or to meet up before the day gets going is fairly important . my thoughts it should be some what close to a town for those who want to eat in local restaurants etc . and it needs to accommodate an unknown group size ,from one rider who shows up to a hundred .
what I do know is no one wants to be there when sturgis is happening .

The original dates of the end of July works good from me, hot and humid here too, but I’ll be riding in it anyway so might as well head to the high country to cool off a bit.

July 30-august 1

On the events I organize there seems to be more people wanting a mon-Wednesday or Wednesday-Friday event so it’s easier to get time off. Seems some places frown on people taking a Friday and Monday off. Easier to get days off in the same week. It makes me no difference though on that.

While it's possible to run into some snow in the high passes in June it's my experience that it's not the norm and it ususlly melts off very quickly. Late June through mid July gets my vote. The group from ST-Owners.com have held a get together at Chris's Campground (Spearfish) in mid to late June for several years. It must be a pretty good place if they keep going back.

Man, I've been itching to get to a Tenere get together for years to meet up with some of the characters from this forum but it hasn't worked out for some reason or other.

The Black Hills SD area is an awesome location for a Tenere Rally offering many types of riding both street, gravel, and dirt. I'm from ND and have attended one day of a Sturgis rally, two FJR rallies based out of Spearfish SD and several Dual Sport rallies based out of several camp grounds in the Black Hills area.

We've used the Nemo Guest Ranch for a couple of our fall Dual Sport Rallies and its worked fine. There is several guest cabins for rent and lots of room for tent camping. Nemo is just South of Sturgis on a very popular Nemo highway so prices and availability may be expensive and hard to come by if your within a week before or after the Aug. 6th - 15th Sturgis Rally. The only down fall I can think of at Nemo is its a little bit of a drive to Sturgis or Rapid City if you want to eat elsewhere or pickup provisions.

I know there is already a ton of ideas out there but I'll throw out a couple others of locations we've used for a Dakota Dual Sport Riders rallies. Two other possibilities are Wild Bills Campground or the Fish N Fry Campground around 5 miles South of Deadwood. They both have small two bed cabins, tent sites, or RV hook ups, on site restaurant and bar . For 2021 we have our two Dual Sport Rallies scheduled for Custer Crossing Campground June 17 - 20 of June which has Tent sites, two bed cabins, RV hook ups and a on site Restaurant. Our Fall rally is scheduled just North of Custer SD at the Crazy Horse Campground which has a good size tent camping area and several two bed cabins next to the tent area. The Crazy Horse Campground has been used for the last two fall Rallys and is a favorite location for the Dakota Dual Sport Riders.

I have a couple of friends from the Dakota dual sport riders that also have Super Teneres and 4 or 5 that just purchased T7 Teneres. I've reached out to them on the dakotadualsportriders.com forum to get their input or see if they would like to join in for some local expertise.
