Did you notice the date of that video? June 11th, 2012

This is why you should have a skid plate that doesn't bolt to the cast aluminum sump.

Just caught some of robson's other posts. He's just a Troll. Don't feed the troll.

@robson, go take a long walk. You apparently don't own a bike, or are not old enough to have a moto endorsement or driver's license. Leave the forums to people that actually have interest in the subject.

I'm convinced he purchased a BWM and now regrets it. It helps him justify his purchase by bashing the bike he should have bought.... ::022::

Not meant to feed to the Troll, but Just curious. With the upgrades to the 2014 Tenere, did they address the Sump Design? I don't remember seeing anything about that.

Yo Robson - What the heck do you ride anyway. The World Wide community of Tenere Owners have pretty much exposed all of the faults of the Tenere. Even the Sump is an inexpensive fix to replace the broken piece. What would that cost on a different bike. A new Engine Case?

Just for reference - The GS is not immune to the same issue.

Nah. I think it is Big Blu's alias. He's a BMW crybaby too. Some people just can't handle the fact they overpaid for a horribly unreliable POS.

Have not bothered reading his other threads or posts, but if the sump is a problem then it should have been brought up by the Yamaha engineers.

I did watch most of the video, it seemed all the bikes had their shortcomings and IMO for the money, simple things like the sump should not be one, nor should the BMW have final drive failures, and the KTM should not have fuel pump and water pump issues.

For that matter neither should the damn clutch basket, better than a GS? I do not know, I bought the Tenere over the GS do to supposed reliability, probably in reality they are closer to the same than many want to admit, I do not know but I do enjoy the Tenere so it is what it is :)

Anything rob puts up is suspect at best and the way those people dislike anything metric when compared to there precious bmw is pathetic, I wouldnt put is past those idiots to leave a drain plug loose to come with a false issue, just sayin
Last time I checked, BMW was metric too, just sayin'...

Just an FYI
Metric is a term used mostly in the cruiser world to differentiate the Japanese ones from the Harley's.

Haters Just Hate...that's their thing... ::007:: ::009:: It did convince me to get a good frame mounted skid plate. ::008:: Is the OEM Yamaha skid plate frame mounted? ::022:: I really like the taller wraparound bash plates! Please forgive me again and again for the S10 noob questions!

Questions are good. Yes, it's a very good thing to get a frame mounted skid plate. No, the OEM one is not frame mounted, rather it bolts directly to the sump and has been responsible for sump damage that didn't do much to the OEM skid plate, but blew out the rear mounting point and created a huge hole in the sump. The OEM skid plate is a gravel guard, at best. At worst, it's asking for damage if the front of the plate hits something that pushes the entire plate back, even if it does no damage to the plate itself... Rubber mounting to cast aluminum was not a good idea!

thanks Eric V, I know I'll be learning as I go, but I don't want to buy and then replace with a better part and have MORE spare bolt on stuff sitting around.
I got the Yamaha Engine guards on order. how are those? anyone? I like the wraparound bashplate by RideOnADV. Im sure it's an arm and a leg...but looks worth it.

I'll chime in for EricV on the engine guards. The factory set is the only ones that protect the lower engine side covers. Rumbux (which he sells) makes upper side protection crash bars that mate up with the Yamaha factory lowers. You get the best of both. When I crashed in the dirt last month there where good gouges on both upper & lower bars. I'm glad I went with that configuration.

Eric is being too modest. He sells the best set-up, Rumbux, and I highly recommend you get in touch with him if you want the most robust skid plate and crash bar set up out there. Cancel the order for the Yamaha skid plate.

While I'm really not happy with the Yamaha skid plate, as Hungry Tiger points out, the oem crash bars have some good points. The trick is to combine it with a skid plate like the ACD or Jaxon's monster that is frame mounted. The Rumbux add on to the Yamaha crash bars adds a huge amount of upper protection beyond the basic hoop. This is not the thread to pimp my wares though. O:)

Go here and you'll see more on the Rumbux offerings if you are interested - http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=4395.0

Cant speak to the new WC BMW clutch, but the oil cooled models had HORRIBLE clutches...just saying. Flog that bike at all and you will eat a clutch in a day on the dry clutch boxers. I do not have record miles on my S10 but the 6k+ I have are mostly flogged miles...no boring commutes and no hint of a clutch issue here.

For this reason, I never mounted one.
