Am I the only person here, who after riding for many years is TOTALLY STOKED about the arrival and introduction of this bike?

I have not been this excited since my first learning of what the Honda ST1100 was back in the mid 1990's!!! I was in my early 20's and would start drooling over the bike and the first Owner Forums online back in 1995!!! Wow, I had all these pages of existing information to read, ask questions about and simply light my fire to ride!!! From then on after my first ST1100 purchase August 23, 1996 I rode, and rode and rode.....well as much as one week of vacation at a time would allow!!!!

I rode east, I rode west, I went north, then back south again meeting fellow riders of the same bike...man this is AWESOME!!! With my last big cross country trip being in 2005, i made it to 43 states including Alaska with these fine people I met on the forum.

My miles have been ridden, the friends I have made and now the excitement is once again sparked!!!! My time is now limited, but my energy is once again up. See you on the road!!!

SO, lets hear some of your stories of your early purchases, or even entry into this passion we all share. I look forward to hearing and seeing some of it and the times you have had.

excited and a bit nervous.....i think the R6 is getting jealous...knowing that the S10 may take away from our time together on the track

I am really stoked about this bike as well. I ride KLR's and have been patiently waiting for someone to break out as make a Japanesse bike that challenges the GS' on the road. Fingers crosssed it looks like the S10 will fit the bill as well as being acceptable off road. Is it May yet?

I am excited but nervous in the same sense. Never owned anything but Suzuki's. Don't have any background with yamaha. I am wore out from waiting after only a month so 7 more during winter will likely kill me. I wish there was more info online about the bike. I am ready to start ordering things for it yesterday. Not sure what or how I want to farkle it but I do want to start before I get the bike. I ordered the 1st week of the program so mine should be here 1st week of May. I hope!

I'm definitely excited about the S10, but I'm trying to keep the excitement level down a bit because it's going to be a long time before I get to throw a leg over it.

The last 10 motorcycles or so I've bought new I right away hated all of them except my 2008 Goldwing and none of the others surpassed 1000 miles before being disposed of. I really think this will be a great one, at least I'm hoping so. If not, bye-bye.
hehehehe. At least you don't dilly-dally around. I tend to keep my bikes for a while. The only one I sold within a year or so was the FJR and the only reason was because I had a neighbor with more cash than brains.

Not as such. I tend to think that's best left to the journo's or people a little more eloquent than I. ;) At the time that I bought mine ....all the press had written it up .... and for the most part weren't very complementary so I didn't really bother.

I did a write up for someone when rode the UK's test bike .... I think it I posted it on the FJR site ... I'll look it up.

In the meantime, if there is something specific that you'll like an opinion on let me know and I'll give a crack at an answer. :)

Found one entry, not a write up just initial reactions:
Well thanks to the MD of Yamaha UK ... I believe the bike was his.
This is a very good bike. Fit and finish seem very good. The bike had 500 miles on it and so some of the aspects that I thought were a bit off may be attributed to it's newness. The motor seemed powerful enough yet sounded a bit rough ... typical of a parallel twin ... I had a TDM 900 that was similar. Suspension was very soft on factory settings obviously this can be adjusted out. The gearbox felt a bit agricultural but never missed a beat ... typical of a big traillie type bike. Brakes excellent. On the low seat setting and my thick soled courier boots it was comfortable for my 5' 9" light frame. Mirrors good no vibration to speak of. Shaft seemed a bit clunky. Handling very good (skinny 150 rear tyre). Wide bars very comfy. Clear instrument panel. A well position power outlet. No gear indicator. No heated grips. Modes were effective. Traction control? never really noticed it. Screen was well positioned for my height. Beautifully balanced for its weight. With the panniers it was very wide which caused a laugh getting on and off slowly so as not to touch anything.
I felt honoured to ride it and, all in all, would very happily own one although not in the silvery goldish colour of this one.
That's enough for now.

Well, I owned my Trophy 1200 for nearly 10 years. I'd been thinking that it was getting a little long in the tooth but there wasn't really anything that called out to me as a replacement (2-up longer-distance trips). The other bikes that appealed to me were for other kinds of riding (like my Street Triple).

We rode an R1200GS 2-up for 10 days in South American in 2008. We both liked riding the bike (comfort, handling) but it had a couple little problems that the tour company was unable to repair on the road, and I've developed a negative opinion of the cost of ownership of BMWs over the past few years. The idea of something like a GS but from a Japanese manufacturer was very appealing.

This summer, poor dealer service led to me getting a used ST1300 and selling the Trophy. The ST is pretty good for me and even better for my wife as a passenger than the Trophy, but it still wasn't my dream bike. When Yamaha announced that the Super Ténéré was going to be sold here, I finally felt the excitement I'd been waiting for about another bike. I got spousal permission to go ahead, on the condition that I not sell the ST1300 until we know the Super Ténéré really does suit our needs (read, she finds it comfortable). Based on what I've read, I think that's likely to work out.

Now, I feel like the kid who sent in his boxtops and is waiting by the mailbox every day for the prize to come.

Can we hear from any more EXCITED people here on this list? It is fun to read of your excitement levels as this winter creeps up on us.
