Well, never thought it would happen, but i did today. Out of nowhere grinding noise from cam chain area. Sounds like a cam chain. Noise increases, speeds up with rpm. Sounds like something rattling inside. I just had valve check done by Action Yamaha in Metuchen, NJ. Stay away from them pending the outcome of this. This may be coincidental, but nonetheless. I have 29K miles now, 2013 is model year. Should I attempt the ride back to NY or find a good local dealer, how funny is that, god local dealer? This could take at least a week. I do have YES warranty, for what its worth. Any reputable places within 100-200 miles of ouray?

Sorry to hear of this happening on a trip.

Contact Action Yamaha and ask them what to do.

I am not sure I want to deal with them. I want to know what caused the issue. I recon they would cover things up if they were indeed at fault.

Trailer/UHaul it up there. Anything that grenades at speed will be a disaster. Just maybe, they might be willing to help a traveler out and come get you.

this davis service center, are they a yamaha dealer or just a repair shop?
i could probably call yamaha, since i have yes warranty, have them send a tow truck and tow it there. it's like 36 miles from koa.

Call (970) 249-8161 first thing in the AM - Ask for Lincoln (GM/owner) or Craig (service manager). Both were great to deal with last year in organizing the S10 rally in Ouray.

They're likely one of the most familiar dealers in the nation with the Tenere, so I'm pretty confident they can get you back on the road in short order.

No promises on this, but they did pickup a Tenere or two last year out in the mountains with a trailer. If you work it right, they might come get you.

Ouray, the only place a Tenere will get stranded. An ABS/linked brake issue, Clutch, and now a cam chain. 432Hz, it's a bummer. I hope you can get fixed up quickly.

i have a feeling that it has to do with the tensioner. seems like its been getting lots of the attention recently on the forum.
does it have to be removed for the valve check? i don't have the manual with me.
