Hola,

I am new XT1200 owner and in this forum, i want to know if someone has modified the stock exhaust removing the internal ducts?
if yes, how is the sound / power reaction? (gen ipression)

Thanks and best regards.

Can't find the threads re: people asking the same question at the moment, but I think the general consensus is that the limitation of the exhaust isn't in the muffler baffling, but in the catalytic converter. Need to swap the OEM header with something of the likes from Arrow if you're really looking to increase the exhaust gas velocity.

Yes, someone did on this forum. I can't find the post, but he may be along to help. What he basically did, was cut the top off the Catalytic converter and remove the guts. Then weld it back again.

I think this would work fine if it is done the proper way. Only keep in mind, you may need the stock exhaust sometime down the road.

If you gut the catalytic convertor, realize you may be left with an "expansion chamber" in the ehaust. This could cause interesting changes in back pressure, exhaust flow, etc. It might make the most sense to gut the cat and then weld in a pipe of the same ID as the rest of the exhaust at that point. Really, for $290 for the Arrow headers shipped, there is no sense in gutting the cat.

Not meaning to hijack this thread but is there any noticeable difference
with the arrow header and stock muffler .

Would swapping out the exhaust really make that much difference other than noise if you dont get remapped because the computer just adjusts somewhat ?

yep, could be 10 pounds or more.

I am not after performance, I like a little more throaty sound than OE, but it's the weight. The cat and the OE header and muffler are HEAVY!

If you want to knock 10lbs of ugly fat off the S10 get a Shorai Battery and get rid of any top box or tank bag. ::001::
