Love this. Would really like to do it. BUT take me off the the Romney list and add a room at Koolwink.

Getting my rotator cuff repaired on 3/11. Patrick you owe me!

As the better half constantly reminds me, I should have done it in November when our medical deductible was fully covered.

Still hope to make the Zion Rally later in the year.

another endorsement?

Who will ride with me at Romney?

A few updates...

School For The Deaf and Blind - As warm weather makes brief appearances to tease us about the upcoming riding season and build anticipation for our event, please keep in mind we also have an opportunity to make a positive impact on some kids that can use our help. We raised over $3,000 last year. The school used the money to buy athletic shoes for the kids to participate in sporting activities. Previously some children had to be kept back from participating since their foot gear was falling apart and did not provide a minimum level of protection.

I hope everyone that participated last year feels great about what their contribution helped achieve. If you do, you'll get another chance this year. If you didn't get a chance to participate last year, you can get that good feeling, too. Please consider making a generous donation to the WV School For The Deaf and Blind in 2016. If you would like to donate even more than you did last year, please feel free. ;D Every dollar given goes directly to the school. For each of the last two years everyone that has donated via check has received a thank you letter and receipt directly from the school.

Right now there are no projects identified for those who would like to do volunteer work at the school during the event. I know some had expressed an interest in going over to paint or move rocks, or do anything they could do to help at the school. That offer was made to the head of the school and I'm told he was visibly moved by it. It was obviously not an offer they are accustom to receiving. He just didn't have anything in mind that we could do. That said, he did offer to make people available to show the school to riders that would like to see where their donation is going. For anyone that would like to see the school please see Checkswrecks or me to make arrangements to go over.

Children among us - On Friday morning there will be children from the school on site. They are coming as a field trip to experience the big factory trucks, and see/hear the camping event that we have going on. I do not have details on time, or itinerary for the kids. Please be aware there will be deaf and blind children in the area and ride with extreme vigilance around the dealership Friday morning. Normal slow speed and vigilance will be sufficient at all other times.

Raffle - Once again there will be a raffle this year with all proceeds going to the school. Tickets will be $10 each. The grand prize will be the latest Go-Pro camera - the Hero 4 Session. For those who cannot attend this year, I will put out information on how to send in a contribution and be in the running for the camera.

Volunteers - You do not build a church for the crowd on Easter Morning. Likewise, Romney cannot staff a dealership for the size of crowd we bring on Camp N Ride weekend. We will be needing volunteers to help keep this event running smoothly.

Currently we expect to utilize volunteers in the registration area, assisting with getting the (soon to be talked about) event shirts to their rightful owners, assisting with/directing parking and tent location, and general event activities. Romney has printed up shirts and hats for the volunteers to make us easily identifiable. Either Checkswrecks or myself plan to be on site at most all times serving as coordinators from Thursday afternoon until sometime Sunday morning.

Since this is our first year utilizing volunteers I expect our knowledge and organizational skills to grow as time goes on. Right now we're thinking it would be best to have volunteers interested in joining us for the entire day. It is probably best not to take volunteer names in advance to avoid people feeling obligated to show up even though they have some emergency at home. If you have arrived and would like to spend the day making the event run smoothly, please see either Checkswrecks or myself. We'll be the guys in the easy to spot hats and shirts.

Honestly I don't know if we will be begging for volunteers, or so flooded with volunteers that we can't put all of them to good productive use. Knowing this crowd the way I do, I suspect it will be the latter. Please be patient with us as we figure out this new dimension of the Camp N Ride event. If we can't put you to productive use, we are still grateful that you were willing to help make this event work smoothly. However it works out, we will want feedback on how to improve the volunteer experience as we move forward. Thank you in advance for considering helping and especially for your patience with us.

So glad it is almost spring!!

If I can get a test ride I might actually get to purchase mine this weekend. I've got a concert on the 29th (I teach) and a wedding on the 30th, but I'd like to come out Sunday morning just to meet people.

Do it.
Sunday mornings are usually pretty easy-going, so leave home early and have breakfast with us.

Breakfast with the Lions was the best. Ordered a pile of food and the guy told be it was like four bucks... Threw him a $10 and refused the change... Tried to chase me down even.

The dealership is improving food service for this year so we don't have the slow downs which happened a couple of times. Stay tuned for more info on that, shirts, and all sorts of other stuff.

In case anybody missed the post above, we have XPLOR-INT coming to provide lessons on how to ride off-road for anybody new or who simply thinks they can use it. I had dinner with a rider last night who has taken two similar courses and said that this is the one she liked. Plus, the teacher is both giving us a super discount and directing money to the Romney School for The Deaf and Blind. See the earlier post about classes for more details.

Speaking of improving food service, Romney is still open to talking to other food vendors that would be interested in being involved with the event. If you know a vendor in the area that may be interested they can call Larry at Romney Cycles (866-766-1495) to discuss.

On another note, our unofficial headcount has gone past the 100 mark. Once again we are seeing people from all over the country planning to join us and our Canadian contingent is growing even stronger. Going to be another great year. If you are thinking of making the trek to Romney this spring...please do. Take a look through the links on the first post of this thread. Lots of information including the podcast talking about the event.

question for the organizer.........

I have a logistics problem, I was going to ride up and tent camp and/or get a hotel room for a few days. Now I am debating on trailering my bike up and sleeping in the enclosed. So my question is will there be any power hook ups? Just 120 so I can run the coffee pot and the microwave? I have 2 weeks off and I was thinking about dragging my trailer up and then riding around for a few days before and after the rally. Can I show up early and not expect anything except a plug and a place to park. I can pitch out some cash, not looking for a freebie and I understand it it fro a good cause. Who can I speak with?

This is my only big trip this year so 2 weeks of riding (minus the commute) will be great

No problem bringing a trailer. Safe to assume there is no power hookup available. There is power and a coffee machine always available in the little green building by the main fire pit. There may even me a microwave out there, but I'm not positive. Someone else may be able to answer that one. Most people do their cell phone/bluetooth device/camera charging in that little green building.

Looks like I'll probably be there for Sunday morning. I'd try for late Saturday night, but I'm not sure about the deer situation during the hours I'd be on the road.
I see you're from Arlington, expect the deer situation to be similar to what you expect when you ride a little west of your house. Those nasty things are everywhere and very active after dark. I know plenty of people do ride after dark around here, but that is beyond my comfort level.

I don't think I'll have my aux lighting hooked up by then, so I might just come out early Sunday. We'll see how good I get at setting up camp in the dark. Deer and new bikes don't really go so well together in my book. I have been to Romney more than 100 times from my house, though. My grandmother owned property down in Landes, so we used to go out there all the time... When the sun was up.

There will certainly be people around on Sunday morning. The earlier you come the more people you'll catch. Pretty common to see people hanging around until late morning on Sunday, a few even stay another night.

If anyone attending for the first time, this video gives a good idea of what to expect over the weekend

Dirt Dad hit most of it in no problem bringing the trailer and having no hookups. RV's are generally parked on the far side of the asphalt if you look at Google Maps in satellite view. I'll add that if you really need hookups, there are two campgrounds within a handful of miles where you'd park right next to the river. Not sure about prices or hookups.

WE ARE TRYING TO KEEP ALL NON-MOTORCYCLE TIRES ON PAVEMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP THIS YEAR. Realize that most of the grass we camp on actually belongs to the neighboring business and a couple of folks last year rutted it up.

We understand that the KoolWink Motel is full. I called the bigger South Branch Inn to the east of town and was told that they "have plenty of rooms" still.

The dealership has never had no problem with folks arriving a few days early or remaining a couple of days, as long as you understand that outside of Thurs pm thru Sunday you are on your own and that there will be no PortaJohns, showers, water, or anything else.
