Thanks for the thoughts, everyone.

I'll be following up, this week and early next week, on all the leads many of you have offered. Thanks.

The big hump will be when the dealership receives the bike and I'll probably stop in and see it. I don't know if anyone has contacted him about my slot, yet. I hope he doesn't get stuck with it. Bad for him plus I won't get my $500 back.

Chad, sorry about the situation but you seem to be handling it right.
There will still be S10's when you're able to get one....hell, you'll probably be able to find one much cheaper with low mileage when someone decides it's not their cup of tea.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Chad - I don't think there's much chance of him getting stuck with it. At least one dealer - the one asking $17500 - thinks there is pretty strong demand!

I have some IT contacts I could check for jobs, but my guess is you wouldn't want to move to DC? Good luck though.

The bike has arrived. I just stopped and they were starting to put it together. It is still available. They have been getting some calls, but no one has committed as of yet.

Sorry to hear. That's gotta be tough after waiting so long.

I wish I had my shite together, but financially I think I need to sell my other bikes first. A lot of other factors would have to line up too. Dealer willing to sell to a Canadian, and my work schedule allow for a week to fly out and ride home.... Hmmm, sure has me thinking. What color and size are the panniers?

My Micatech v2 are 10" both sides and black. I got the big ones because I figures when I had them on, I wanted as much capacity as possible to avoid having a top case or anything on the rear rack (easier to swing ones leg over). I also intended to use my Wolfman Expedition Dry Saddlebags for smaller loads or more offroad trips (soft bags are better for offroading), so that was another reason I went with 10" for both sides since I would have small-capacity alternative so when I had the panniers mounted, I wanted all the capacity I could have.

I just got the call from my dealer and the bike is put together and in the showroom, ready for someone out there to purchase. He also made it clear that my $500 deposit was in jeopardy and would slowly disappear the longer it stays in the showroom (all understandable, but inconvenient for my pocketbook as the reason I can't get it is I'm already low on funds and this is another $500 I'll be out). Soooo, if anyone is on the fence or knows someone that would like one, please send them to Wayne at the number listed below.

Also wanted to make it understood that the the way a PDP bike warranty works is the warranty would initially be in my name and transfer to the new owner after a month or so. Just the way the PDP program works since it's all pinned to my name. No impact on what would be covered under warranty at all. The title and all other paperwork, of course, goes directly into the buyers name.

Note that I still have new-in-the-box Micatech V2 panniers (black, 10") with SW-Motech racks and pannier liners available for local pick-up for $1,095 which is a fair savings compared to ordering, and shipping, from Micatech. I'm willing to sell and ship them, too, but would need to take them in for a shipping estimate. We can work something out, though, as I need to sell them.

I can pick you up at the Helena airport (20 minutes from my house) for a fly and ride and put you up one night at my house. Can help install panniers and we could also do your first oil change after you put on 30 - 100 miles here locally. Lot's of great riding around here.

Dealer info:

Open:

Chad, I thought if you were able to cancel you bike during a certain period and get your money back. If you ended up canceling it and telling your dealer during that period he was suppose to give you your money back. I don't know when you told your dealer but it might not hert to look into it. Sorry about your job, I know how you feel I was in IT during 911 and was out of work a long time back then. I ended up getting out of it and into a different field of work.

I called your dealer on saturday. He wants $ 13,500. I offered him $12900 which is a good offer. Many dealers sold for considerably less. If he is going to hold out for $13500 and stiff you for your $500 deposit he's an asshat

Whoa. To call a dealer an asshat because they won't accept your $1000 under MSRP offer is completely out of bounds. And who badged you with the power to decide what is a "good offer?" And how about I call you an asshat for being unwilling to accept his offer of $400 less than what Yamaha suggests the bike should be sold for?

Dealers are private businesses run to make a profit. Prices are negotiable. Let's leave it at that and avoid the name-calling.

I think "sold" - past tense - is the operative word here. I doubt many dealers a selling at the prices they were when the S10 was just a promise. $13500 doesn't seem bad under the circumstances - someone should pay that, Chad should get his $500 back, and everyone should be (more or less) happy.

NO,no, no. Not calling the dealer an asshat for not accepting my offer. Just sayin if he wants to hold out for $13500 or more that,s OK but I don't think he shouldn't penalize the original PDP guy $500.

You're slicing/dicing your original statement in a way I wouldn't, but regardless, since we have no information whatsoever about the deal Chad made or how refundability is being handled now, I don't think this is something we should be sticking our nose in about either.

If Chad chose to share, I think it would be interesting to know what the original deal was. If it was for $13,500 or greater, then the dealer is behaving in an understandable way. If it was for less then I think it gets more complicated. Slicing and dicing aside, I see tc9988's point about the dealer using Chad's deposit as free flooring financing in order to grab a better deal, if he is indeed asking for more than he sold it to Chad for.

So you understand the intent of my original statement better than I do

The point is that we don't know diddly-squat, nor should we for that matter. If the agreement Chad made was that the deposit was non-refundable, there is nothing that says the dealer has to make a refund if he sells the bike within a certain amount of time or for a certain price. He may be doing Chad a favor at this point.

If you back out of real-estate deal, you don't get your ernest money back because you found someone else to buy the house for the same amount you were going to pay.

From the dealer's POV, he was expecting to have $13K+ dollars in his bank account to meet payroll this month and he has nothing. He may have a bike sitting on his floor all winter for all we know.

PDP deposits where never intended to be placeholders that could be passed around between buyers like chits. Most dealers, to avoid exactly these types of weird disputes, simply make them completely refundable at any time. But some can't or won't. That's their perogative. As it is ours to buy somewhere else if we want.

If I were Chad I'd definitely throw out the deal price and let things fall where they may. That would probably be in the best interest of all folks who see this posting and are interested, so that they're level-set on this particular dealer's prices.

You're right in that technically the dealer can keep the money. As for whether he is doing Chad a favor or not, I guess that's a business ethics discussion.
