So picked up my 2015 XT1200ZE on 6th March.
Thoughts so far before its first service ......
....bearing in mind i have spent my life of Sports Bikes and some heaviliy modified ones at that i was ready to embrace the change of getting a Tenere (thanks Knees and old age!)

So first of all i keep trying to put my feet on pegs that arn't there and have to put my feet lower which is still a weird feeling put am loving the leg room. The seat feels like a sofa compares to what i am used to. The seating position feels good for me at 6'1". :)

I kept the engine in 'T' mode for the first 100 miles and the motor felt exactily like i was expecting and nice round town with constant stop / starts and traffic. Low down grunt was good - nothing mind blowing just enough to do the job. The next day i put it in 'S' mode and what a difference that makes ! A bit snatchy round town but great when out on the open road. I have seen some people on here complaining of lack of overtaking speed but i found overtaking painless if in the right gear. :)

I have put the screen up to the third notch and find it does the job compares to useless R1 screens i have been behind. :)

Now the suspension - i can't understand why Yamaha won't let me adjust the front and rear independantly like i have done for the past 22 years but i have to admit so far i am liking the electronicaly adjustable settings - i would like a little more preload and compression on the front but hey if i wanted that i would of spent less money and got the standard Suspension. I am still getting used to not going round corners like a sports bike and only had a panic once or twice from nearly running wide. :)

The brakes -not the best but they do work just not as much as i would like - may upgrade at a later date. :(

I liked the standard sound track but the Yoshimura pipe i put on sounds great - not to loud but improves the engine note. :)

Heated grips are a god send - really a good bit of kit if you go out in summer gloves and its a bit colder than you realised ........ ::)

The rear seat and carrier area is great for putting bags on (not a pannier fan) loads of strap points to secure to. :)

No chain to lube and clean is a plus ! ::012::

So over all its more of me having to adapt my riding style from R1 to XT1200 but i am liking the change of pace and comfort.
I get from A to B and feel much more relaxed and less stressed than i used to.
Already planning a road trip to Italy with a trip to Bosnia ( to visit where i had been when in the military) next year.
I hope the picture works ...

Nice bike JimYam
I have been enjoying my XT (2012) for a good few months now. I've had KTM 950 ADV V twins, Triumph tripples and various fours , but the 1200 twin is my favorite engine so far.
Great bike
enjoy.

LOL you truly came from sport bikes :) welcome.
You will like the bike. There are a few areas that are compromised (power, brakes) compared to the R1 but little else.
it's the reliable swiss army knife.

I agree 100% that the ES should be adjustable front & rear sepratley I'd like a little more compression up front also. I'm surprised about the bike running wide. I'm finding that it holds a line really well & I'm talking scraping my boot lean angles but always in hard suspension mode when pushing it and sitting as far forward as I can. Anyway these bikes are fun now you just have to get used to having fun below triple digit speeds !

I think it takes awhile to get used to. I came from a Z1000 that fell right into curves with little effort. The S10 takes a little more effort to get it leaned over and until you get used to it, plan accordingly. I ahve about 350 miles on mine now, mostly highway and I'm still getting used to it.

Tyres and tyres pressures can have a good deal of influence on how a bike corners, the geometry is not going to be quite like a sport bike though.

I'm really liking mine so far. Does your fuel range readout seem to bounce around a lot? Mine almost is useless. Maybe after I get some k's on it and pay closer attention to what's going on.
Also seems like my right grip isn't as hot as the left.
Fun bike though. I've had to work hard to find something to whine about.

I think he is referring to the fuel range readout, not the mpg readouts.

oh yeah my Cruise control does not work but is getting looked at on the first service but cruise control is not something i am fussed about anyway.
As to handling comments - my last bikes were set up for fast road / track so its just a case of me getting used to how the Tenere handles - that will come in the next few weeks.

Funny seeing people talk about handling slow on the turns. I just came from a Suzuki M109r and I thought the turn in was amazing. The 109 with that big back tire did not want to turn at all.

Congratulations on your new Super Ténéré!!!

My previous bike before the Ténéré was a 2011 R1, so I was used to the crossplane crankshaft which I noticed a lot of people complain and compare to "tractor".
I got used to it really fast, love the way it turns, I even feel I can go faster in sharp turns compared to the R1.
When I first posted here other members posted assuring me I would love it, and indeed...I can honestly say it is the best motorcycle I ever had.
So I would like to use this post to forward the assessment:

You will love this motorcycle!!

Did you, by chance, adjust your brake pedal height? If so, you also need to adjust the brake pedal switch by a similar amount.

If your cruise doesn't work, and you adjusted your brake pedal height down, there is a vg chance you're riding around with your brake light activated all the time.

Congrats on your new bike. If the turning speed is slowish for you, the cure comes with shorter dog bones. Cheap and effective.

Add stainless steel brake lines and sintered pads to improve braking performance and feel.
