On my old fashioned 2011 I found the steering much better with a bit more pre-load at the rear, I know have a Wilburs shock which sits as high on minimum as the stock shock did with an extra 2 lines of pre-load wound on.
I have now dropped the forks about 8mm which also made it turn noticeably better - but I could only do this due to the higher setting at the rear (plus the Wilburs compresses lees in the turns) pre-suspension mods my 2011 lacked enough ground clearance to drop the forks.
I expect the forks could easily be modified to get exactly what you want - give MCT a call ::008::
The engine takes a bit of getting used to, the flat torque curve makes it feel much slower than it really is, if you ditch the headers for Arrows you will pick up a lot more top end, but will need a good remap tog et in running sweetly.
I went from a ZZR1400 to a GS (then the S10) as was not enjoying the faster bikes so much, too fast for the roads near me plus I would be in huge trouble without a licence.
Try and get off main roads and onto unclassified roads and back lanes and you should find a new world of riding with less traffic and little chance of a serious run in with the feds, and get it over the channel and you have the comfort to ride to the Alps and more than enough speed and handling to enjoy the twisties when you get there - and no chain to lube, or worries about putting 3,000 miles on your bike making it worthless.

I just ride now, year round whenever I want, I have never enjoyed riding as much as I do now.
