i'm replacing the rear shock with an ohlins. i don't have a shop manual so i looked over the bike. is removing the shock as easy as it looks? any gotchas? anything i need to do in particular? i'm not johnny-mechanic, but i enjoy doing what i'm able. on the surface this appears to be something i can handle, but i don't want to bite off more than i'm able to chew.
Hi Jason.
Congrats, and enjoy... Do spend the time reading up on adjustment, and take the time to understand what the suspension is doing underneath you to set up to suit you.
To remove the old and install the new, you must:
remove the cable guide on the inside of the R/H subframe member,
remove the two suspension tie links.
Have someone move the wheel/swing arm up and down very slightly to remove the bottom shock bolt and also to replace it.
Pretty easy job realy but the Ohlins cable routing is not that well thought out... Does the job if you feel you dont need to tinker with it.
Greg.
