Hello m8 ... you sure that order number is correct ..... I don't think so. Check it and let me know and I'll revise the entry .... you'll not be able to do it yourself as I've already 'adjusted' the data for the sake of consistency. BTW welcome to the forum :)

I just got done modifying the database code so that if an Administrator or Global Moderator modifies a record it retains the the original ownership.

Swagger, this means that as you touch records from now on you won't become the "Created By" person. This way the original entrant can still modify their record.

When I get a little bit more time I'll put in a "change owner" function so that ownership can be passed around as needed.

Notification of S10 receipt

Hehe :D That's not really funny is it?

In past Yamaha Pre-order Programs: Does the customer receive some kind of notice from Yamaha the bike has been shipped? Do we get any type of notice to expect the bike on X-X-X date? Or is it a phone call from the dealer?

I was wondering becuase I thought it might help pass the time if we play a game called guess the date your Tenere arrives and win a free ? Motorcycle? ...or hat or something. It seems no one really has a clue what is going on, if possible maybe we could all guess the arrival date of our bike and see who gets closest?

Anyway, May seems to be getting further away. At this point the only hope is medication. :'(

I don't know about a prize at this point but we could certainly do it for bragging rights. I can add a field to the database that will be "Arrival Guess" and people can pick a date.

In the past, there was no direct communication between Yamaha and the customer, it was all through the dealer. Things might be changing since most of us are getting promotional "form letters" direct from Yamaha, so I wouldn't be surprised if we get a form letter at some point talking about general timing (e.g., "We know you're excited about your new bike and we're happy to report that S10's are being built as we speak...."). I'd be very surprised if Yamaha would ever communicate directly to individuals about their particular bikes - this is something that historically has always been done by the dealer. The dealers can track when the bike clears the port and is in transit, but I don't think they have any way to know exactly where it is in transit nor exactly when it will show up. But their experience on typical transit times would probably allow them to predict to within a few days to a week, notwithstanding unusual delays.

There is another thread in this forum discussing delivery timing.

With normal orders the bikes are first shipped to regional warehouses and the trucking company that transports them to the dealer from the warehouse notifys the dealer as to when it will arrive. The dealer gets the VIN's etc from the manufacturer a bit before that.

I did the Yamaha PDP dance back when I got my 2006 FJR1300. Was one of the first orders for the '06, getting the order on on the morning of the first day. At that time they said delivery of the bikes would begin in late February or early March. I don't recall getting any sort of communication from Yamaha directly... Not even like these letters that have been coming to the Super Tenere buyers. My dealer's a friend, though, so he kept me in the loop pretty well.

Come the end of that next February no word on delivery of the bikes, then rumors they would be delayed. Most prevailing story was that a subcontractor was at fault, not delivering the FJR's saddlebags. March came and nearly went, and the saddlebag story seemed to gaining some credibility as my dealer said the bike might be shipped without the bags, with the bags coming later in a separate shipment. Then the last week in March my dealer called me and said my FJR was in the warehouse and was due to be shipped. I waited as a few days went by and then word came the bike was on the truck and heading our way. Oddly enough it was coming straight from Yamaha's L.A. warehouse instead of from his usual Dallas, TX warehouse (we are in South Texas). Still no firm word as to whether the bags would be in the crate or not.

Here we were in April and my dealer calls to say the truck is going to be at the dealership that morning and to come on down. I get there only to discover, along with my dealer and his staff, that there are two huge holes in the side of the crate while the bike still sits on the truck. Lots of mulling around deciding whether to accept delivery, including my dealer making a couple of calls to Yamaha. It's determined that any damage will be covered and delivery should be accepted, so the crate's unloaded, pulled into the dealer's warehouse, and uncrating and assembly started.

Goods news was that the saddlebags were in the crate and the damage wasn't that bad... Bad news was that the bike was a month late, I had a trip to leave on that I had planned to ride the FJR on in less than a week, and that one side of the fairing was torn up, one case cover on the engine damaged, and some other parts scuffed and scratched up. Apparently someone at a warehouse or loading dock along the way had stuck two fork lift prongs right through the side of the crate. Luckily they stopped before they went all the way through the whole motorcycle. Bike assembled fine, rode fine, and I ended up taking it on my trip - though I ended up starting the trek with only 70 miles on the odo upon departure. I do have to hand it to Yamaha, too. They took it upon themselves to make good on the damages, and had brand new pieces (with the paint matching perfectly) to replace the damaged ones in my hands in less than three weeks. I thought was pretty good for a new model on a limited delivery basis.

Just passing on my PDP experience, but here's hoping they've gotten a bit better at it. After all, the Super Tenere has been selling elsewhere for nearly a year now, whereas the 2006 FJR was a model significantly changed, worldwide, from the prior model, so it was essentially all-new. With the Super Tenere the supplier/subcontractor supply line should be in place and on-time so there shouldn't be any issues like the FJR's bags. With any luck the USA Super Tenere's will start arriving on schedule in May... And like has been mentioned I'd be willing to bet that the only way to stay on top of when your bike will be shipped is to keep in close touch with the dealer you ordered it from. At some point he will get an update on the status, and that "Expected to Ship" field on his dealer computer screen will have a date on it instead of the blank field they are currently showing. ;)

Just FYI...

Thanks for that Dallara. You mentioned "Oddly enough it was coming straight from Yamaha's L.A. warehouse instead of from his usual Dallas, TX warehouse (we are in South Texas)"

My dealer and I were wondering if these PDP bikes would come thru the normal distribution warehouses or, since Yamaha has said they would be delivered per ordering sequence, if they would do some sort of shipment direct from CA.

I didn't realize that the 06 FJR's were still sold under the PDP Program. I guess Yamaha did the PDP for 3 model years on the FJR then, before then changed to normal orders.

I doubt Yamaha is going to do any kind of unusual distribution arrangements in an attempt to be make sure deliveries are made in strict ordering sequence. They've certainly never done this in the past and it would be a logistic nightmare, adding significantly to costs. Yamaha will likely just make sure that the bikes ordered first head out from the factory to the appropriate dealers first, but what happens in the transportation chain from this point on can add all kinds of variability - on previous PDP's there were people getting bikes a month earlier (or even two worst case) than others even though they were later in the sequence.

Yep, the '06 FJR's were still PDP availability only. Remember that was the first year of the oddball auto-clutch model...

Needless to say, I didn't get one of those!

I am wondering if these Super Tenere orders will come through the dealer's normal warehouse, though. Reason for this is that on the Yamaha dealer's web site it currently shows my Tenere coming through the Dallas warehouse. I guess we'll see. ;)

Four years, I think, 2003-2006 inclusive with two ordering periods for the 2005.

Well - all this info is quite interesting about the supply chain and past habits of the motorcycle industy. It would appear that guessing the date of arrival for the bike is not something that could be managed in the context of a competition/game.

Because I purchased mine in the neighboring state - I really don't like the idea that my new Tenere will sit at the dealer, all alone in a strange place, while I arrange vacation time to go retrieve her. Therefore, I'm considering applying for the entire month of May as vacation time-off, so I'll be ready at a moments notice to go be with my new ....... :p bundle of joy.

Thanks for the info guys - Really appreciate it - I'll put the boss on notice for May.

Delivery dates will also depend on the emissions terrorists in attempts to make the bike pass the USA laws and regulations. I remember the Honda Varadero in 2008 was in the warehouses in May, but didin't hit dealer floors until Aug-Sept that year waiting for a Canadian approved Fuel line or something.
