Hey gang! I've mostly been a pavement tourer for most of my riding experience but I've been eyeing the Shafer Trail on my Moab, UT trip later this year. Any opinions and/or tips for taking my S10 on this particular trail? I've read it is manageable even for those like myself. I'll have a set of fresh Shinko 705's for the journey. Thanks!

The Shinko 705 wouldn't be my choice for anything deep, sand especially. Their 804/805 would be my choice. I ran two sets this last two times, worked good. The rear pattern is very paddle like. They last a decent length of time too. The right price for a single use trail tire.

Just did it from bottom , up to Park, in March. 804-805's no issues. Got a pass here 38.459790, -109.820921 and Ran out to the end of Grand View Rd , well worth it for the views.
hit a lil deep sand here 38.460806, -109.755166.
Would def not run up OR down if it was wet!!!

...and if you get a chance. Run up 38°36'08.7"N 109°34'29.7"W 38.602409, -109.574909 128 to Cisco and back, A great paved river road, you won't regret it!

Have Fun , be safe, post pix!!!!

Yes just last week. Majority of it is paved, dirt section is ~20 miles and nothing rough or technical. If you're afraid of heights you might not like the steep switchbacks though. Nice scenic road.
