Much has been said about the Yamaha cases. Essentially, they are smallish and have fiddly/touchy mechanisms. They work well enough. In my personal judgement, they are sturdy enough, although that has been questioned too I think. For me, as I tour in all weather, have a CPAP (medical equipment) and a large camera kit (dSLR, tripod, 3 lenses, bag of accessories), and sometimes carry camping gear as well, the Yamaha cases are just not big enough. If you are looking for around town use, or light (weekend) solo touring, in my judgement they could be a great bargain.
I wasn't planning to sell mine until I have the Jesses in hand (see my other thread). However I am getting some PM's in addition to your inquiry. This forum is not the place for a sale, although I appreciate the inquiry. I would suggest that anyone interested pm me for details, as I am not ready to list them in the little pimpin' section yet.
As for the keying suggestion: I would just leave the lock cylinders in if I couldn't get them out. Not that I am worried about someone having a copy of my key, but I know I would want to use my regular key rather carry an extra that looks the same and be constantly fiddling with figuring out which was which. At this point it seems I should be able to get my locks out. I would prefer to keep them in case I ever want to go back to the oem boxes, or for whenever I might sell the bike.
Thanks for your thoughts and inquiry.
