What do you guys think about setting up a paypal account to collect money for a secret Christmas present for Venture to show him our appreciation for creating and maintaining this site for us.
I don't know what is realistic but if 100 people would give $5 that would be $500 towards that adventure helmet he has been wanting or we could get Rod to secretly ask him what he needs. If anyone thinks this is a good idea and knows how to set up a paypal account for this type of thing we could get things rolling so he could have this for Christmas.
Thanks, Steve

Details Added by ColoRider:

Okay - Steve and I, along with Kev at Twisted Throttle, have talked this over and I think we have a pretty good plan.

Twisted Throttle has made a VERY generous offer to add 20% to whatever amount we collect and then issue a gift certificate to Chris. We will work the logistics to make sure Chris receives the "gift" just in time for Christmas!

Sooooooo, for the donation portion of the process, we will use my paypal account and once the donations are shut off, I will provide all funds collected to Twisted Throttle.

For those that want to donate, please PM me for my paypal info. If you do not have paypal, you can send me a check and I will add it to the fund. Again, PM me and I will send you my snail-mail info.

If you use paypal, I remind you to do it as a "personal gift" (which it really is) to avoid transaction fees.

If you are wondering about the surprise factor, since this is Chris' forum, I have requested he NOT look at this thread and he has agreed.

Thanks everyone!
Rod

Re: Secret Christmas Present

The secret part is if Venture comments on this we don't know anything about it, right?

Re: Secret Christmas Present

Well, its not a real surprising option, but you could publish Venture's Paypal address and anyone that wanted to could just send him $5 or whatever.... Not as cool as presenting him with a lump sum, but might be the easiest.

Easier but not near as meaningful. "I gave Venture $5." vs "I helped get Venture a $500 bucket." People like to be a part of something larger. Keeping it a group gift would play into that.

I like the original idea of a combined lump sum or maybe a gift card to RevZilla... something like that.

Count me in.

Re: Secret Christmas Present

How about getting the Forum sponsor, TT, or a similar retail organization, to set up a revolving (for lack of a better word - dynamic ??) account for Venture, which would be worth whatever is sent it. They would probably do it for nothing. That way me or you or whomever could just apply 5 bucks or whatever they want via Paypal or Visa or check or cash to this account, and Venture could draw from it for purchases as long as something was in there. The Venture venture. And totally anonymous as to who donated how much. Just a thought. Might work - might not.

And if he was bad, we could cut him off ... when he was good, we could top it up. R

Re: Secret Christmas Present

On VFRD, they actually collected the money to buy the forum admin a brand new bike, after he totaled his on the way to one of their get togethers. So it can definitely be done, and in dramatic fashion!
