Hi folks,

Well, after a few weeks with my Tenere I'm still loving the bike but I'm hating the seat. I did not enjoy the seat the first weekend I took the bike out but I figured I'd give it time with some longer rides just to make sure my own butt was broken back in some. I'm no stranger to long 1000+ miles rides and I never had to change out the stock seat on my V-Strom but I have had bad seats before...including the stock seat on an older ST1300 (horribly painful) and the stock seat on an '05 R1200GS. Okay I'm blabbing on...long story short...I hate the stock Tenere seat and my butt is killing me after a measly 150+ miles.

So, I'm searching for a new seat and I know I do not like the Russell Day Long wheelchair look (hope I don't offend anyone). I had a Sargent on my old '05 R1200GS and that still wasn't as comfy as the stock seat on my old DL1000 V-Strom. I rode a Russell Day Long on a friend's ST1300 a few times and loved the comfort but just can't live with the looks.

The only other 'popular' brand of seat I've never owned/tried is a Corbin. Any thoughts on the Corbin for the Tenere and would you mind offering up some good feedback if so? I'm 5'9" and roughly 190 lbs.

Any suggestions are much appreciated and I really hope to get some good guidance soon because my Tenere's stock seat keeps bucking me off and keeping me from enjoying my new ride!
You may want to give Spencer a try before you drop major coin on a Sargent or Corbin. He modded the seat on my Vstrom as well as my ST and I have always been pleased with the results. If you don't like the results, you're only out about $100.00, how could you go wrong?

Well, I kind of wish I had waited to read the replies more before I placed an order with Corbin ::010::. I made my decision based on having two Sargent seats in the past - one on an ST1300 and one on an R1200GS and I wasn't real comfy with them. Honestly my stock DL1000 V-Strom seat was still better than either Sargent and I found the Sargents to be too soft in general.

I've never had a Corbin so I figured I'd give it a shot, but there were a lot more Corbin nay sayers in this thread than I had hoped for. Geez, I'm sweating now!

don't sweat it. i don't think there's anyone who "kinda" likes a corbin. so you're either going to love it or hate it. my history with corbin is short. they're hard. if you like a hard seat, you did the right thing. :)

i have a demanding ass and went with a day-long just like my other bikes. my ass is happy now.

I've had corbin's on several bikes and have always enjoyed them. Just got back from a long trip from Tucson to Vegas with a 270 mile ride to Death Valley sandwiched in between and would have to say that the trip out I was questioning whether the corbin was the right seat or not. By the trip home, I was completely satisfied and had no issues what so ever. It takes time for a little break-in period but well worth the wait.

I bought a newish Corbin off one of our own here on the forum and I rather like it.

I put 220 miles on it last Saturday and had a nice relationship with it the whole time.

It's a keeper me thinks.

I must have a Corbin butt. I have Corbin's on all my bikes. Even the DRZ makes day long trips bearable. I rode the Trans American Trail on my KLR with a Corbin and as I recall at the end of each day I was the only one who didn't suffer from a severe case of monkey butt. :))

There's a big difference between a soar ass and monkey butt. A soar ass is, well, soar for various reasons. Could be a bad seat or simply just a long day in the saddle. There's only one cause of monkey butt, though... It's a combination of not wiping your ass well enough to remove all of the fecal matter and butt sweat. When they mix and are allowed to ride between the cheeks for a while, it will fester and cause a severe rash or... monkey butt. And make no mistake, it doesn't take much of either to become a problem.

Jason Thanx for clearing up the difference of monkey butt vs a sore ass. Being a former hair scramble rider. I've had em both. Get a good wipe. You nailed it.

I have to plug RDL here, even though you don't like the appearance. I had Laam do a seat for me, and while it was very good, it wasn't quite stiff enough for me (I'm a giant fat ass). I could go 25-350 miles on it before I started squirming, but with a little moving around and such, I could (and did) do 1000 mile days without significant butt pain.

Then I bought an RDL.

I recently did a 31 hour rally (the Void) and in 2.5 days including the trip home I rode about 2450 miles, and I literally had no moment at any time of any butt discomfort in any way. In 31 years of riding on lots of seats that I considered to be great seats, I've never come close to that before. Not close.

All of that said, if high mile days aren't so important as looks (completely understand, not criticizing at all) I'd go with a Laam seat. It was the second best seat I'd ever owned.

I ended up with a RDL because my wife hated the passenger seat.I was semi ok with the stock seat.So I ordered both seats for us.Wife now does not want to get off of bike, loves it.I am also more comfortable with RDL, but im one of the few that could have lived with stock seat.

Sargent Seat Questions ?

For those that did have tried and either like or returned the S10 Sargent seat a few questions ...

BACKGROUND: I own a 2014 S10 ES and my body is 6'3" 290 lbs inseam 32 (as a comparison for my needs)
I live a few hours from the Jacksonville, FL Sargent factory so fairly easy to return a seat if I do not like it ...
I am close to buying a Sargent seat and wanted to do one last check with the forum members....

QUESTIONS

1. Did you get the Mark I version or the Latest Mark II Sargent seat?.
(Early S10 Sargent seat versions seemed to have a design issue that reports suggested were fixed)

2. Did you keep the Sargent Seat and are you still using it?

3. Roughly are you near my same physical size?

4. While I do not need to do 1000 mile days I want more pain free miles than the stock seat (~ 350 miles for me). What is your daily mileage comfort range with the Sargent Seat on the S10?

Thanks

Don't waste your money on Corbin, Sargent, seat concepts, etc. They are all better than stock but not worthy of all day rides. Get a Russell Day Long, Seth Laam, etc seat custom made you for. It costs a little more but less than it would if you bought one of the former mentioned and they eventually moved to one of the latter mentioned. I've had Corbin and Sargent on many bikes and they were always better than stock but never good enough for 6+ hours of riding.

My RDL build date is 11/29. Looking quite forward to this upgrade. I ordered both the driver and pillion for the wife with both seats getting the heated option. I'm a bit concerned about the height as I'm only 5'7". Prior to ordering, I put the seat on the high setting, blew up my Airhawk as high as it would go and sat on the seat. I was able to tip toe...and somewhat handle the bike as I rode around. I would think the RDL wouldn't be as high as my intentional height adjusters, and I was still able to get my feet down. I've never been able to flat foot any motorcycle I've owned, so for me, toes are enough.
