I did a 3 day tour of the backroads of PA and averaged 55 mpg. I filled up a 220 miles and still had 1.3 gallons in the tank. I'm very pleased with the range of this bike.

220 divided by 4.7 equals 46.8

Computer said 55 mpg average, and I did reset it at the last fill up, I may be off with how much I filled up. It was 4 gallons and change.. I think I could have done 270 miles and been nearly empty.

Mileage. Right on at 46.5. Did 1500 mi. trip. BMW 1200 46.5. FJR 1300 42.5. VFR800 42.5. Slow riding in mountains. 52mpg. Old 2002 Concours 1000 also had same mileage as tenere. Vent the filler neck fill it up and you can go 250 mi. (don't leave it parked in the sun) with filled tank.

Just did my Saddlesore 1000. Averaged 40.74mpg, with the majority of it at 75mph true (GPS/ & speedohealer), not indicated. Pretty awful if you ask me.

I have noticed that if I keep it at 65mph or below I can get close to 47mpg.

4,000 RPMs seems to be the magic number for maximum MPG while at speed. No changing the counter sprocket to resolve this issue.

I would agree, I averaged about 44 (on the gauge) last weekend returning from collecting my luggage, this was two up with panniers and top box crusiing at an indicated 80 - 90 on the motorway (according to my GPS the speed is about 6mph out at these speeds
so a genuine 74 - 84 mph)

I worked out average from fuel used at 42mpg - this still assumes the speedo is accurate for miles covered, so if that is also 6% out I am probably about the same as your 40mpg - only travelling faster with two people.

Averaging 44mpg, includes cruising, 2up, being an idiot and commuting in both modes. Bout the same as my gs. This is calculated from log book fills and gps mileage

52 mpg Imperial about 42 mpg American. Doesn't seem to matter the speed too much. Don't get your milage from the speedo unit other than the odometer(which is reasonably accurate). Just take your milage from a full tank and how much gas you actually put back in the tank. My GS12 got 59/60mpg Imperial, slightly better. Got over 400kms on my last tankful and that is around 250 miles. Still had almost 1/2 gallon left in the tank. Good enough for me. ::001::

I reckon the bike stacks up well against the GS, which considering how hot and lean the BM's run surpsrised me, I was fearing the 20% larger tank of the Yamaha would be very much negated by it using more fuel.

Overall it is about the same, a few pence more on fuel does not bother me, the extra miles between fills in genuinely handy :)

Averaged about 47 mpg for the first 10,000 miles. This is a mix of 2 lane and highway and about 170 miles of off road. Mostly freeway though running around 80-85. (Picture Included of my 10,000 turn over)
I did a trip this weekend and got about 51 mpg. The trip consisted of 2 lane and full access 4 lane. Speeds were between 55 and 70, mostly around 65. I was able to squeak 250+ miles out of the tank though.

There are two late-model GS's that I commonly tour with and they use slightly less fuel - I average low-40's and in the same use, they get mid-40's. It makes the range approximately the same, their slightly better fuel mileage just above offsetting the S10's slightly larger tank.

Late-model BMWs tend to be very fuel-efficient.

This may not really be apples to apples with the size difference, but I'm getting 45.6 mpg on the Tenere (24 data points) and on my 2010 GSA, I got 40.4 mpg (42 data points). This is based on the odometer and not the computers calculated mpg.

Your probably spanking along then ::012::

The one thing I noticed was how crap the GS is at high speed, when confined to tight Alpine passes where you rarely top 50mph I have had days with averages over 50mpg (Two-up with luggage) but the run down the French Motorways at an indicated 90 had it struggling to top 40mph.

One thing I noticed on the Tenere is the fuel consumption does not plummet at speeds in excess of 70mph, sure it goes down, but the BMW gets exponentially worse, but I don't think the Tenere can compete with the (dangerously) lean GS at low speeds - then again it probably won't drop the RHS exhaust valves down the cylinder head either ;)

Nope, same driving habits and not a speed demon.

UK prices are around the $10 level but for a bigger gallon (+20%). Believe me, it doesn't change your life. If you decide to own a motorcycle, you stop asking about the cost and just get on and ride it. What else are you going to do? Mind you, we don't drive 100 miles to the supermarket like someone I met in Texas. I haven't had a chance to verify the on-board readout yet but it keeps telling me i'm in the mid fifties per (UK) gallon (UK bikes have a MPG readout). Most of that was achieved on slowish side roads but included some 90mph main road use. I don't believe it, of course, but anything over 45 will be 5 mpg better than my previous Ducati 1200 Multistrada under the same conditions.

Just finished a 9 day tour Idaho - Washington - Oregon - Idaho. 2,467 miles and 54.62 gallons = 45.1 mpg. Calculated using the ST's odometer for the mileage. This was two up and very heavily loaded. Most all miles were on two lane with only about 80 miles on super slab. Lots of mountains, and wonderful motorcycle roads! The bike performed flawlessly. I am pleased.

I am having trouble with the "miles to empty" display. It seems to never go below 160-180. Even if i am running empty. The tripmeter is around 200-220 when the F-meter kicks in.

Does anyone else has this problem??

We have a 'miles to empty' display?

My coolant temperature display always floats between 160 and 180, you sure that's not what you're looking at?
