There are a couple of threads over on ADV with pretty good info on how to do the installation of the Rosta unit.
I've started doing the install but have done a couple of things differently. I tried fitting the servo unit in the recommended location on top of the transmission and beside the starter. I just dont like it there, so I spent some time looking around at other options and decided to mount it under the seat. I think it will be better protected and away from the motor heat.
There is 1 black plastic panel under the seat that has to be removed to make room for the servo and also 1 (gray plastic) mount for a wire harness that I had to remove to allow the wires to be placed just to the side of the servo. My wiring is all routed and I am ready to make the connections. I have not connected the cable to the throttle body yet, need to bring home a security tool to gain access tonite. I made up a switch box to palce all my switches in one convenient location near the left handlebar controls.
Heres a couple of pics:

What is the big switch above the CC? Is that the Yamaha heated grips controller?

It is the controller for my ($30) Symtec grip warmers, the controller is a Heatroller brand.($70)
The waterproof lighted push button switch ($3) on the left is for my LED driving lights, the right PB switch is there for future use.

Okay, thanks. Will be watching this thread for your progress on the CC. I pulled out my AudioVox vacuum model and took a look at the instructions and parts again, don't think I will be installing that, at least not anytime soon. I did get it working on the Versys but was pretty crude, engaged abruptly and had some other niggles.

Last nights project was to get the cable connected from the servo to the throttle linkage.

This requires removing the airbox and the black plastic guard from the side of throttle body that is held on with security screws. After studying where to make the connection point for the cable, I drilled a hole that a #4 machine screw would go thru about 1/2" from where the existing cable connects. Then fitting a bracket to mount the servo cable in a position directly in line with the throttle linkage but not allowing it to contact the tank or any of the other stuff in that area. The bracket that is supplied with the Rostra kit works for this but has to be bent and cut to fit. This requires drilling 2 holes in a frame gusset for mounting to the bike. I painted the bracket black and left it hanging in the garage, will mount it tonite
This part of the project took me about 3 hrs. I told you I work slow.

Finished up the Rostra project last night and took it for a quick ride, success!!!
It passed the diagnostic test and the road test. I'll get a little seat time on it today and see how well it controls the transition of on/off throttle application under different load conditions. Glad this little project is finished, probably had 10 to 12 hrs invested in it.

well if it took you 10-12 hours, it would likely take me 10-12 days and we both know that's not going to happen. :) i'll just stick with a throttle lock of some sort.

Thanks, Bob. When I get ready to do mine this winter I may PM you with questions, if you don't mind. I followed the installation of Supercruise on ADV and don't quite agree with or perhaps understand his thinking with some of his wiring.

This forum has been a big help to me, I appreciate the sharing of information.
I would be glad to help any way that I can.

I did not like the way the one on ADV connected to the throttle wheel. Did you do something different (talking about the little lasso of the end of the cable). Wish the control box was not so large also, but can do nothing about that for sure.

Also like Fredz, I had some problems following all of the wiring diagrams and where he picked them up on the bike.

I saw the phot on ADV where the guy wrapped the new cruise throttle loop around the existed cable end, I didnt like that either. He also did NOT use the short chain connector to prevent binding of the cable.
I temporarily removed the top throttle cable to prevent damage to it while I drilled a hole thru the throttle activator wheel about 3/4" in front of where the existing cable ball connects. I then used a #4 machine screw with a locknut completely thru both sides of the wheel to connect the cruise cable, it rides over top of the existing cable and does not cause any binding. I also used the ball type chain connector provided with the cruise kit between the loop and cable to allow slack in the cruise cable when operating the throttle.
Wish I had taken a picture before I buttoned it up. Heres one after finished but it doesnt show much detail, due to the throttle activator cover.

I saw that picture, and I understand your description, good job and thanks.

Did you incorporate all the safety features such as:

1. Disengages with clutch pull
2. Disengages with either brake
3. Did you pick up the speed from VSS wire (blue)
4. Did you use the tach wire

I will have to look at the Rostra instructions, but I have installed several of the Audiovox vacuum types on ST1300's. With them there is a jumper that you either remove or keep in place to select manual transmission. When you have it in the manual transmission mode, it senses a rise in RPM if you pull in the clutch and shuts it down. That and tieing into the brake circuit so it shuts down with either brake are the only interlocks I used with them and hope the Rostra is the same.

Yes I connected to the blue VSS wire.
Yes I connected to the brake circuit but thru a relay that I added which also activates my flashing brakelight.
The brake switch activates my SPDT relay, the normally closed circuit completes the ground circuit. When the relay activates it opens the ground side for the cruise (releasing the cruise) and closes the ground for my flashing bakelight.
No I did not connect to the clutch switch or the tach, I don't feel the need to do this but it should be easy to do if desired.
I added a 30 amp relay that supplies power to my 6 position fuse block when the key is turned on. All my accessories are powered from the fuseblock. This is no additional load on the bikes wiring except to power the relay coils.
All of my wiring connections are under the side panel except for the VSS wire that I tapped into under the tank near the seat.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but it's been really helpful to me so far during this intall.

So... I could use some help interpreting the wiring diagram at http://users.tpg.com.au/roger38/Rostra%20XT1200Z.htm Basically, I'm lost as to how to wire the relay into the yellow brake wire.

Basically, I have a relay with five terminals (85, 86, 87, 87a, 30), a relay plug harness with a wire for each relay terminal, a violet wire from the CC unit, and a yellow brake wire that I need to connect. The diagram indicates that I want to go from violet to NC on the relay.

Any help would be really, really appreciated because I'm stumped. Thanks!

First be sure that you have the correct type relay. This is not a relay that would be used for lights.
It should have a common, normally closed and a normally open terminal.
Going from memory: 85 and 86 are the terminals for the relay coil. Connect 85 to ground, 86 to the yellow wire, connect the violet wire to the common terminal and then connect the normally closed relay terminal to ground.
This way the violet wire will be connected to ground thru the relay, except when you apply the brakes, then the yellow wire will send 12V to the relay coil and open the contacts which will release the cruise control.
