I am curious why so many guys are claiming such quick demise of the stock battery. The stock battery is a Yuasa, arguably the best lead acid battery made. I've owned MANY motorcycles and actually have yet to kill an OEM Yuasa in any of them.

Well mine was really struggling to turn over the engine and I had lost confidence it would start.

I think avc8130 and a number of folks here are MUCH more conscientious than most, so the batteries should last longer.

That said, two things can speed the death of batteries, one being heat and for Coastie in Houston, the temps are a wee bit hot for more than half the year.

And outside of this group, the other killer is when people let them discharge fully for the winter. Most people put about 3,000 miles on a bike in a year and don't use battery tenders. Then blame the OEM battery.

I'm in Coasties back yard. Same hot climate. I agree it takes it's toll. But not riding sure as heck didn't contribute. :)
Funny thing is, it was a couple of crispy cold mornings that revealed the death of this battery. Same for the dual batteries in the diesel. Seemed ok (not brand new) the day before.

I see this all the time - Auto service dept. manager - battery tests good today. Temp drops 40 degrees overnight and the battery dies... There's no predicting it. Shit happens.

I did not replace my battery because it was bad or sluggish. I replaced it because I had accidentally drained it dead dead dead three times and did not want to take the chance of it giving me problems while on the road. This is my fear "its a cold dark rainy night and you are 100 miles from anywhere".

Originally wanted the Shorai but had heard of some returns and lack of cold weather performance. Then I read that the cold weather issues can be overcome by heating the battery by creating current flow (headlights) then starting the engine.

Bought a replacement battery and keep it on the Battery Tender when at home. I probably have good battery sitting in the garage on the other Battery Tender.

I just use some metric studs, a little locktite, and I have threaded posts.

Wait, isn't this a thread in a post
Like the idea of using a metric stud. Searched 'metric studs' and got way too many options. Any suggestions?

my stock Yuasa battery on my 2012 just caused a jump start scenario on my last trip. It's 34 months old. Was getting weaker for the last 6 months or so.

The Battery in my Tenere seems week, I will be replacing it after the warrenty ends this spring.

I am one of those mainly do to area where I only put about 3 or so k a year on a bike, yet my 04zx6r had its stock battery in it when I sold it last year.
Never took it out, never used a Tender.

Replaced my OEM battery at about the 2.5 year mark. Tested OK, but just seemed to not have sufficient grunt when starting sometimes. I usually put the battery tender on it if not riding for more than a week or so and I am averaging about 8K miles per year. The rest of my miles are logged on my other two wheeled machine. ;D
