Rear disk wear at 4000 miles

I just turned 4000 miles on my Tenere and noticed that the rear disk has an uneven wear pattern. It looks like I am just getting a little over 1/2 of pad wearing onto the disk. This is a picture of the outside of the disk and you can see the different shades on the disk showing the uneven wear. The inside of the disk (spokes side) shows a little bit greater wear pattern, but not much more. I have only done about 5% dirt roads with the rest on paved. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this and if I should bring it to the dealer to have it checked out? The bike is still under warranty.

Thanks,
Brian

If it were mine, not only would I measure the disk, but I'd pull the pads and lightly sand the surfaces to get rid of the embedded grit that causes the scoring and uneven wear. A piece of 80-100 grit paper on a flat surface, a few passes back and forth, and you're done.

It's not uneven wear, it's just heat discoloration. That disc looks fine IMHO. If it ain't broke...............................

Howdy,
I checked my rear disc after seeing another thread on the same subject and found that the front discs are as smooth as glass when you run your finger over them, the rear is like the ocean on a windy day, wavy, grooved what ever you want to call it. Did not notice this at 7k miles when I changed tires now at 10k I believe my disc will need to be replaced the next time I change pads. Oh yeah, on I'm my 2nd set of OEM pads.
Later,
Norm

I just bought a new one. It had to come from Japan !!

My rear caliper seized in its pins. My fault, I did not grease them when I changed the pads. One pad wore straight into the disk and warped it.

This piccy shows the discoloration scoring to the disk/rotor. Parts of the old pad were welded to the disk face.

This piccy shows the warp. Oddly enough, it was still flat when on the bike and held in place by the cover plate.

It was still useable as I had spare pads but I changed it ASP.

Here are some pics of my rear rotor after 21k miles:

As you can see I have quite a bit of wear and a significant lip forming around the outside. By measurement, this rotor is 50% worn to the wear limit.

I am overdue for a tire change. I plan to do it Thursday. I'll probably wipe the wheel then. I like to start with a clean wheel so there is no dirt to grind into it while changing.
