I think I saw a pic of a RAM ball mount sticking out of the top of the dash. When I looked at the top of my dash, there is one of those push pin connectors. Not sure what lies under this pin. Can anyone enlighten me? Was I dreaming?

I currently have my Zumo mounted on the front brake lever mounting bolts. It works, but would prefer to have the unit directly in front of me.

Unless you drill the plastic and install screws there's not much up there for a RAM mount to attach to.

I'm wondering if you saw mine. It's a simple Z-shaped piece of plastic that is sandwiched by the mounting of the instrument cluster. There is also a piece of foam sheet between it and the cluster.

btw - This position blows away the handle bar mounts for visibility, as do the mounts on the MadStad and other windshield adjusters.

Thanks Checkswrecks. I have to commend you on your restraint. A beautiful day on a wide-open country road and you're only doing 59 mph! ::025::

Here is mine. I use an old Ram Mount I had, cut it and made a thread in it. There is a support under the dash, if you take off the pin you can fix the ram mount in it.

JaimeV, that's what I remember seeing! Thanks! ::003::

You make it sound easy. I will check it out this weekend. I think I have an old RAM ball laying around somewhere.

At the end of the Dragon, across the road from the motel/restaurant.

I pulled that rubber thingy off the stem and that would bew a great place for a easy to use Ram Stem mount and then just add a longer arm to get you device up higher ?
Just asking as I had a Bar ram mount hanging around and I mounted it the bars down low but should hold what I want . The center top of dash wold be better but I dont really use the GPS that much and really use my Iphone through Bluetooth

Replacing that push pin just in front of the dash is absolutely perfect. Now we just need to figure out how.

JaimeV,

Any chance you could snap some pics and elaborate on what you did there?

Looks like I'll have to make another run to the Dragon. ::26::

That push-pin is a joke anyway as the panel it holds in place does a lot of flopping around when the screen is set to a higher position. I replaced the push-pin with a wel-nut and a screw.

A well-nut! PERFECT.

Now to find the proper RAM piece.

Not sure if the rubber wel-nuts will hold a RAM ball. The one I used was an 8-32.

I doubt it would be a problem to hold the RAM ball...now hat we might mount on it is another thing ::015::

Seems like the RAM balls are available in either 10-32 (or maybe 10-24) and 1/4-20. A wel-nut with a #10 thread is available, but will require drilling out the plastic piece to fit. Thing is, not sure I would trust that much weight on a rubber wel-nut.

I have a RAM ball with 1/4-20 female. I was trying to figure out how to hold the bolt while putting the ball on. I think I might put the bolt in the hole with a dab of JB Weld on it and letting it bond in place. Then I could put the ball on/off easily. You are correct, a 1/4-20 won't fit through the stock size hole so this isn't reversible (if that matters).

Still, depending on the model of GPS, that's a lot of weight/mass bouncing around on not a lot of plastic......

Just sayin......

That would be my concern as well, especially if you are mounting a Zumo 550 which weighs close to a lb.
