If it ain't broke don't fix it.
Hey guys. A few weeks ago I installed a Ram Mount 1" ball on the dash of my S10. There has been some discussion over this in the past but I thought I would share my experience.
JaimeV posted a few pics of his setup which inspired me to try my own. Here's what I used:
- RAM Mount Female 0.25-20 Thread Hex on B-Ball RAM-B-337U from GPS City $10
- 1 1/4" stainless steel hex bolt from Lowe's
- 1/4" stainless steel washers from Lowe's
- Blue threadlocker
I had to cut a notch out from the support in order to get the bolt installed. It also allowed me to use a socket on the bolt. So far it has worked wonderfully. My only issue is that the GPS does tend to vibrate on rough terrain but no more than the shield. I am using a RAM long arm and may switch to the short. My GPS is a Garmin eTrex 20. Fits perfectly under my V-Stream shield.
Drink Boulevard beer! After the ride of course.
