Amateur Mod time here.

One of the first things I did was remove the passenger seat when I got the Tenere home. Wasn't it cool how Yamaha designed the under-seat space to make a level platform? However, that plastic surface isn't holding up so well , really getting rough looking with the gray plastic wearing unevenly. I carry a dry bag back there, so when I'm travelling you don't see it. Thought I'd put some of my left over aluminum parking lot signs to good use by making a better looking platform to set the luggage on. I found a piece of textured thick black plastic that is used as a shipping pallet liner for computer switches - Thanks Cisco - it matches my bike seat nicely. Whole project cost = $7.95 for the can of contact adhesive. Bragging about a cheap @## project is not something you'll find on the BMW forum.... ::025:: I'm pleased, but I usually have low expectations.

Very nice mrpincher. I haul my dry bag inline with the frame. Is that what you do? If you decide to make and sell these platforms, I am interested.

Hey there - I do as well, normally ride with the bag inline with the bike.

I looked for awhile & couldn't find anyone building a flat plate to cover the full surface, so I built this one. Maybe there's not enough money in a simple idea like this? I know it could use the help of a real designer. I'm sure Tourtech would knock it up a level. This one will work for my uses.

Venture - That bag came with my bicycle trailer. Manufacturer say's it's 94 liters. I cram a lot of stuff in it and have used the heck out of it. It's 100% waterproof and it fits that space perfect. After five years of use its just now starting to show signs of wear.

Hope that link is OK.

AVC8130 - The thing I built was a bit to install. Not something I will take on and off. You would be far better off to try to design a way to use the existing "exposed" bolts somehow vs. the way I did it. I thought about powder coating or getting it sprayed with bed liner. I had the plastic so will see how it holds up. Mine doesn't have any strength on it's own, it fastens flat to the existing rack. Mine was an attempt at a cosmetic cover-up for the unsightly abraded gray plastic. Best to ya.

Thanks for the link mrpincher. That is a BIG bag. Makes my 38L a handbag. and at $59 should make it to the top of the list for purchases.

That looks pretty easy. I could probably template it up and have it laser cut from aluminum...just add it to the pile of stuff I want to design for this bike.

I like Touratech's setup...but as with most of their stuff, the price just keeps me away. $250 is just more than I want to spend for a "rack".

If there is a bunch of interest, maybe I will move it up the list.

I agree with you about costs. Like the KLR the Tenere is fair game for Rider / Manufacturer that wants to make some riding money while providing rider designed parts at a reasonable price. Please, no Doohickeys :D

Wow. I have an 80L "semi-dry" bag that I use for non-motorcycle stuff and it packs an ENORMOUS amount. 94L is downright massive. That really is a steal of a deal at $59.99.

I lie, I did once use the 80L bag for a camping trip but only because the forecast was clear. The guys I went camping with referred to my bike as a "clown bike" because I just kept pulling more and more stuff out!
