Well it seems like I have my winter project. I've hopefully acquired a Yamaha TTR600RE, it's in very poor condition body wise but mechanically sound. 1,200miles on the clock, 2003 plate. I intend to attempt to bring it back to close to perfect condition. Stainless steel and titanium bolts all round. New plastics and high quality paint and polished metalwork. Looking forward to this ... :)

Ah yes the project bike .... well I bought it ... and then flogged it immediately without doing anything to it making £750 in the process ;D Desperately trying to find another. Trouble is a lot of people are after these bikes.

Yes I'd like to find another TTR600RE. They are amazing machines .... built tough and easily repaired on the run. The one I found was absolutely minging .... however a a thorough deep clean revealed the diamond beneath. However, the level of neglect was going to be more costly than originally anticipated. A neighbour saw it and said it was perfect for what he wanted ..... just to be driven into the ground. So I essentially got paid £750 for cleaning it. Happy days 8)

Right I have a new project bike. Strange choice this. It's a Honda Firestorm VTR1000 on a 2000 (W) plate. I intend this machine to do the donkey work of the daily commute throughout the worst of the winter. I've always liked V twins and this one is a nice clean one. I'll strip off the aftermarket tat ..... carbon fibre fender, fork shields and hugger. Replace the indicators with something similar to stock. The zorsts will remain as they are virtually new Remus Titanium road pipes. I'll replace all bolting with stainless equivalents. I'll stick on the obligatory R&G crash protectors and have just ordered Renthal sprockets and chain. When its looking a little more to my liking I'll stick some pics up.

Wow spending way too much time on the little Firestorm.
Done the things that normally go ... CCT's, rectifier etc. Given her a deep clean. Got the stainless bolts from 'Tastynuts'. Ripped out the hugger and replaced with genuine parts. Done the rear break line. Put on a shock tube. New shock splash guard. Done the Renthal drive train. Sorted the R&G crash protection.

Still got to do the indicators. Tried to remove the front fender ... one of the bolts has seized. Drilled a pilot hole went to open it up some more and snapped an HSS drill bit off ... how am I gonna get that out then ::) I may have to get a grinding head on a dremel and grind the little freakin thing out.

Is begining to be the bike I want though ;D

Right this is the Storm as of today. It's been in a million bits since .... re-wired the alarm this afternoon. I cut the fairing to take the R&G crash protectors. It now has a new complete new Renthal drive train. Done the CCT's and the rectifier. Started the bolt replacement. Suspension next.

Spent the last few hours fiddling with the Firestorm ..... I have now replaced all of the rear end gear .... I removed a rather naff hugger and replaced with OEM chainguard, mud flap etc. The rear seat surround/cowling had grommets and spacers missing .... that's all sorted now. It will be restored to almost as Mr Honda intended.

Just got the jetting kit, free flow air filter so my weekend will be busy. She'll be ridden on Saturday for sure. ;D

How did the Saturday ride go then? The weather held out pretty good in Kent.

Weather was beautiful ... bike performed impeccably .... unlike me ::) The motor is very strong .... smooth pulses of power all delivered in that rythm that only V twins have. I'm going to like this little machine. The seating position isn't too racey therefore reasonably comfortable over the course of the ride.

Looking good. If I may post a pic of my 98 VTR1000. I love this bike and bought it new.

It will be my main ride until my Super T gets here, as I am selling my ST1300 and KLR.
