Hi,

This is probably heading a little off topic, but sure anyone know whether it is ok to run the Arrow header, stock muffler and reflash without a PCV? The reason I ask is that swapping out for non-cat headers and leaving three stock muffler was a popular mod on the 1200GS.

Thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt, I'm not awary of anyone having such an outfit. The catless Arrow headers have quite an impact on exhaust gasses flow, but I do not know how that works out in combination with the stock exhaust... Most have an aftermarket exhaust as well, and in that case a PC V is highly recommended. I would suggest to try it out, you can always fit a PC V afterwards, but if you can afford it, get one with AutoTune and you will have the best setup and no worries about the effects of a lean condition.

My 5 cents...

Got an e-mail back from ECUunleashed Australia today, there flash only alters the sport mode leaving touring "stock, for rain, off-road, and situations where traction is more critical than power" and at aquoted price of $599.95 AUS with a 2-3 day turn around.
I gotta say that sounds like it will do for me., overnight shipping, no customs, no worries! the big blue Beastie is about to become Bigger and more Beastly! ::26:: ;D

I have the headers on-hand and might try that myself. If you are near a tuning center for ECUunleashed, they can customize the map to your bike, but that's probably more $$ for the dyno run. Might be worth asking about though.

After all the positive comments about AF-1 racing, I'm leaning toward shipping my ECU to Texas after the break in. Can't wait to read some reviews of those going with the ECUnleashed option. I've felt leery of the idea of shipping a $1,000+ part to Europe to a company who isn't quick with communication and a language barrier to boot. Not to mention the drama of dealing with foreign customs, etc.

Bravo to those brave pioneers who took that route - I don't think I would have had the stones to try it. ;)

As an aside - this is obviously a topic near-and-dear to our Tenere owning hearts as this thread is quickly approaching the, "What have you done to your Tenere today" thread in views and replies... Obviously Yamaha screwed the pooch on the power limits in the first three gears - who would want that? Apparently not us! ::003::

I'm here reading every post in this thread and waiting patiently for the dust to settle to see what shakes out in the end.
I already have an after market slip-on, want some kind of ECU reflash but am not a fan of the Power Commanders. ::017::

Same as the price I was given with my enquiries for my S10 (bought in Brisbane). What irks me somewhat about that is the price is higher than what it is costing in the USA, and given that the AU$ is actually buying US$1.06-1.07 that sucks IMO. Same deal with all the OEM bits and bobs for the S10, the OZ prices are way and above US$ prices yet the Aussie dollar is stronger... I understand that for OEM economies of scale come into play... being that the USA market will ship more S10 compared to OZ/NZ, but that doesn't fly for the ECUnleashed flash. It's price gouging in my very humble opinion...

Yeah, but you don't get the perty litte sticker on yer ECU ;D 8)

The one from Off-the-Road looks like a shipping document, so that's a fail. The true test of the ECUunleashed product will be whether it can one-up the bling on the side of a Diapson ECU.

Behold, the standard by which all others will be judged! :D :D

Seriously though, if I were stateside and the ECUu gen 2 flash was available at the time I orderd, I probably would have went the same route.

In posts Thagua has made about this, he doesn't state whether he's turning the bike off then back on to check for this. The wording is almost as if he thinks the Diapason ECU reverts back to T with the bike still runniing...though maybe something is lost in translation.
Hi Tremor38 ... please check my previous post a couple of days ago :
Just to check if my ECU unleashed by Off The Road had been 'tamed' to 'T' mode after switching off the ignition I went for a short ride to my 'fibreglass taylor' to measure distances for the new front fender raised 30 mm to get ready for the 21" wheel and switched to 'S' before departing and when ready to come back it was still on 'S' .... so mine is FULL unleashed and really can tell the difference between both modes ... the 'T' mode is powerful but tamed ... the 'S' mode is as powerful but quite savage ... compare a tamed horse with a wild one ... all done without connecting the Power Commander which has FAILED ... maybe OTR will be offering a Half Flash (without unleashing T mode) and a Full Flash (with complete unleash of both T and S modes) to suit some people mind concerns.
Cheers,
Thagua

Here's a quote from Streaky:

"Hi with my OFF ROAD reflash my bike does go back to t mode when switched off and restarted,There si also a big power difference between sport and touring modes, Dont want to confuse people, But thats how it is,Regards Thomas"

So maybe they've changed something? It would be interesting to find out your ECU was flashed before or after streaky had his done.

as a matter of fact I am planning to stretch the cables leading to my Diapason ECU so I can mount it on the outside of the bike, for all others to admire... ::013:: ::013:: ::013:: ::019:: ::019:: ::019:: ::025:: ::025:: ::025::

Hi Tremor38 ... mine was one of the first ... but it doesn't have that lovely Diapason sticker, only the bar code sticker, so it is not worth its real value ... lol ... what matters is its performance and what Off the road.de has shown (the dyno graphs) ... hope AF-1 will make a good job.
Cheers,

Yes, it will be nice to finally get impression from U.S. spec bike owners with the the AF-1 (ECUunleased) flash.

I have been following this thread since the start. I have a question about the closed loop programming in the ECU and the PCV Optimizer. The reason the Optimizer exists is to "trick" the ECU into sending more fuel to the engine while it is running in the closed loop section. Does anyone know if the Diapason/ECUnleashed/Etc. flash removes the closed loop programming? If it does, then the bike no longer requires the stock O2 sensors or the Optimizer - making the Autotune even more acurrate in its tuning.

My R1 ECU was flashed by ECUnleashed and it did remove the closed loop programming on that particular bike model. I run a PCV and AutoTune with the flash - no Optimizer and no ECU error codes.

I am going to try this route. Ed at AF1 advises that he has a map that was developed with the Arrow header and a slip on can, and it should be pretty close. I am going to do the the throttle body tweak and synch as well.

Even though it would be a good days ride each way, I think I would seriously consider riding down to AF1 for some dyno time and have them just tune the thing. Be a wash as to cost and the PC V I am thinking. Be a good comparison ride too, >1200 miles each way. ;D
