Dear experts and experienced fellow S10’ers…

Does it make any sense to get my ECU flashed and still keep the original headers and exhaust?…

Could not find conclusive info or advise in the forum (or I am not much of a rearcher, for which I apologise)

Thanks in advance…

It does improve the bike's performance significantly. The S mode is more more powerful and more rideable and the T mode is more powerful. I didn't enjoy riding the S mode, since it was so sensitive, but now it is manageable.

I see you are from the Netherlands, from what I remember, the stock European map is much better than the stock USA map, so for you, there might not be such a big difference if any. I still don't understand why the European bikes sold in the USA have much better ECU fueling than the Japanese ones. I have ridden a USA Tiger 1200 and a GS1250 and the fueling was very good. I also own a 2023 KTM890 ADV and the stock ECU fueling on all 4 modes is very good. My friend only rides his 2015 Yamaha Tracer in T mode, he calls the S mode humpty dumpty. :)

Got my '16 done cause i hated the decel...2 up riding around hills etc was hard work being smooth on and off throttle to avoid our helmets coming together.
It made my bike easier to ride for this and esp if you're on the gas ! It does (seem to) improve the power in both modes for sure.

If you dont experience this (like Sierra1 ) then i wouldnt bother.

Mine came with a Arrow header and i bought a 2nd hand Akro muffler so flashed to suit this set up as well.

Nice pic btw

It is/was my understanding that the flash doesn't change the performance, just the rideability. Were as the header/muffler change can produce a small improvement to the HP/TQ. But the biggest improvement is the weight loss from getting rid of the OE muffler. There's almost every combination of header/muffler on the forum. I tend to wonder how much placebo effect is going on. I'm lucky. I like the way she does everything, so . . . .

We were responding at the same time, with two different answers. I do experience the sudden decel. But I love and use it like a tool. When I ride two up, I ride different. I also noticed that I use the clutch to smooth out the throttle. Didn't realize I was doing it for the longest time.

i know the best results of a ecu flash is with arrow headers and arrow or yoshi, akro muffler and done on a dyno thats it, i know as thats what i have now,
but about 8 years ago my gen 1 standard bike was strangled by yamaha it was ristricted in the first 3 gears bad enough that i nearly sold it it was awfull, so i took it to a dyno specialist in the uk, it was flashed on a rolling road for 4 hours with standard headers and a yoshi can, now the dyno guy said shame i hadn,t put arrow headers on it it would be a lot better result, but i was there so do it.
when i had it back the ride home was unbeleivable, the ristrictions were gone full revs in 1st,2nd, third gears wow, very very smooth better torque figures s mode was even better t mode was to, so well happy,
so your ecu flash with standard headers will work and you,ll notice the difference and you,ll be glad you did it.

but 2 years ago i took mine back to the dyno with arrow headers and the yoshi and it was dynoed again, and yes wow even better so i should of taken it the first time with the full exhaust on it to safe money but i never
