The 'normal' speed limit in Wales is currently 30mph, we already have 20mph around schools and other built up areas but from the 17th September the 30 will be dropped to 20 unless a separate sigb is in place.I presume these are town/villages 20mph limits? Is it common and throughout Wales? Is it enforced by average speed cameras, static or mobile cameras, or a mix?
Rob is right, the problem is that there are some very fine roads in Wales, (fine roads are also available in other countries too), that are very accessible, but they have been popularised by TV programmes such as Top Gear and 5th Gear and the like. So, because of accidents and indiscriminate driving practises, the speed limits on these roads have dropped from 60mph to 50mph, 40mph and even 30mph on some roads. The by-pass near me had a 60mph limit for years, but recently, there have been a number of fatalities and, especially on weekends, motorcycles literally flying up and down the road in between 2 way traffic. The limit is now 40mph and average sped cameras are being installed. The result of this is we are now treated to motorcycles riding at high speeds pulling wheelies through our villages here!I presume these are town/villages 20mph limits? From your description bikers are already speeding in relation to the current speed limit. Will reducing it further stop them from doing so?Rob is right, the problem is that there are some very fine roads in Wales, (fine roads are also available in other countries too), that are very accessible, but they have been popularised by TV programmes such as Top Gear and 5th Gear and the like. True but when its really sneaky and its in places which are more about revenue collection than safety then im not for it.Reducing speed is a road policing tool that no sane person can argue with. I'm sorry, it makes sense,

Thats why i like the Highlands and the places i ride in Wales. I dont take much notice of the speed i just ride how i like. Freedom is what its all about.
My dad used to play that song, although I think it was the version by Charlie Rich or Pride?"Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose, and nothin' ain't worth nothin' but it's free" from the song Me and Bobby McGee sung by by Janis Joplin (written by Kris Kristofferson/Fred Foster).
Lots of folk have covered it, but songwriter Kris Kristofferson said Janis' version captured it best.My dad used to play that song, although I think it was the version by Charlie Rich or Pride?
