Overheating… with an Err.

A couple days ago, I cleaned my throttle bodies, put everything back together - with no spare bolts or screws at the end!

She started up fine, idles nicely, no problems. Took her for a normal ride and after a few minutes in moderate traffic, I got “C.TEMP Hi”

Of course I stopped right away, and hit the kill switch. At the top left of the display was also “Err”. I assume that means error.

I chilled for a few minutes, started it back up and all was well for a bit until… “C.TEMP Hi” and the “Err”.

I wasn’t doing anything special, and she has never overheated before - even in hotter, slower conditions.

Other facts:

- Fan kicks on at 221, off at 211 every time
- Coolant level is good at the reservoir and up to the brim of the rad. It looks pretty clean.
- I have NOT flushed the coolant
- Oil level is good, changed recently
- No sign of any coolant leaks
- Radiator looks ok. No obvious dents, etc…
- Nothing blocking the main inlet in the fairing.

Questions:

- What else can I check?
- Does the “Err” message mean I can look at a diagnostic of some kind?
- Could I have f’ed something up doing the throttle body work? A sensor or something?

Thanks for any help!

Probably the temperature was high in that traffic...and that's why the warning...Is the fan working?...I don't know at what Hi temperature the warning appears, but if the coolant mixture is fine, it shouldn't start boiling until around 120C... ..if the temperature sensor was disconnected, it would probably indicate a fault, but I don't think “Hi temp”… Fan: fuse?, Relay?..Plug?….left side fall?….

I understand you are a Canadian, living in Mexico, but we know nothing about your ride. We need year, mileage/km, service history & modifications if any. Has the ECU been flashed? Is it a US bike or does it have the immobiliser system that talks to the ign key? Was there already a problem emerging that led you to cleaning up the TBs?

The usual plan is to consult the bikes diagnostics first - this was available through the dash up until 2017, when an OBD code reader became necessary. However, before we get deep into the analysis, my initial reaction is that this is simply a low battery condition, where the battery has only just enough grunt to effect a start, or poor connectivity at the battery terminals or neg/earth leads.

If it was fine before you started the "Throttle Body Cleaning" procedure, I would double-check any harness connections or electrical plugs you may have disconnected in the process.
Make sure they are all clicked together solidly................also, there may be one or two of these that could potentially be connected to the wrong thing if you weren't paying close attention?

There is a temp sensor right below the Throttle bodies.. On the Right side... Pull the plug and maybe clean both sides.... then make sure it 'snaps' back together.... Try that first....

If it happens again, let us know.................
