After following this thread, some thoughts for consideration

1. "What is this generation coming to????" seems to be the eternal lament from one generation to the next. When we change the world we also change how our children see and interact with it. No reason we should be surprised! :-X
2. in 1960 the Motorcycle market was dying then some fella named Honda came along with an inexpensive fun little cycle that revived the market and brought a whole new generation in. The profit may be in the noisy 30K Bling hangers but the future is somewhere else. I think the move by many makers to more entry level, lower price point and naked machines will help......just not today. I think many makers (especially HD & Polaris) forgot that and they will pay the price for that brain fart for some years yet.

Lonely...Hell Yahama didn't even show up at the Washington DC show a couple of weeks ago.
Honda has skipped this show in the past but this year had a huge display.
Maybe they are taking turns.

I bought my S10 in 2012 (a used 2011) At then 63 I was finding my FJR uncomfortable to ride for a two week two up tour. So the S10 is a down shift as far as hp is concerned. In the UK and most of Europe, the continuing obsession with lowering already low speed limits and rolling our more cameras to catch you, is makeing more power a waste of time and money. Since the last time in 1979, the FJR was the only bike I got caught speeding on, and you don't need to be much over the limet. A gps controlled speed limiter would probably be more useful than the abilty to get to 60mph a bit quicker than the last model.

Altho the SuperT may not be a huge seller Im sure it does sell well enough to be entirely profitable.

Yamaha could focus the bike a bit more to be sexier and a lil more sporty perhaps...and she could use a diet....

BUT the basic platform is sound, well engineered and of super build quality...and its service intervals and ease of service are classic Yamaha...
And its price is a lot easier to swallow than either German ADV variants....both purchase and service/parts going forward.

Long live the Super T ::001::

Hopefully, this is the year we get the Gen3. It's over-due.

horse power...

The only reason that the Tenere isn't as popular as other dirtwings is due to the horse power rating. Unfortunately, that is what drives reviews/sales. If this bike had 135 hp from the start I am sure it would have sold a lot better. Do you "really" need it..of course not. But, that is what reviewers look for. If it had 150 hp like a KTM I am sure it would have been the greatest Adventure bike of all times...in someone's review.

p.s. I'm 71 and still love my 2014 Tenere ES. Can't wait for the snow to melt so I can go riding.

I pretty much agree horse power means a lot more to other folks than it does to me, for my use the stock Tenere already has way more power than I need. I wish mine had come with cruise control , self canceling turn signals and a single sided swing arm so it would be easier to change the rear wheel.
