What does the OEM rear rack look like on the bike? My 2016 came with the OEM top case and mounting bits and I’d rather use duffel bags or a tailbag for hauling my camping gear. I’ve read the crappy reviews on the OEM rack and am looking at the alternatives.

I'd debating on making my OEM panniers black. Not quite sure if I should paint them or use some sort of dura liner/undercoat type spray. Has anyone here gone from silver to black? What did you use and did it hold up?

I don't do much off-roading other than the occasional dirt and gravel roads...

I did one with Tremclad (I think, I can't remember exactly but it was from Home-Depot). So far so good, I even forgot that it was painted. The most annoying is masking up all the plastic pieces.

You can coat it with Plasti-dip. If you're not hitting a lot of gravel, it should last. For more durability you can apply enamel over it. The beauty is if you ever want to go back to silver it will peel off, even if you used enamel over it. I did that on some 4Runner parts and it worked well.

Done! I carefully removed all my decals and saved them so I can reapply them to my tool cabinet in the garage. I used Engine Enamel semi gloss paint.

I got the gold Super Tenere decal kit on Ebay from a guy in Bulgaria and they are great quality!

Be sure to take the rubber off when your not running the cases.

I liked the cases fine but after a few thousand miles of dirt the plastic case broke off where it mounts on top. I was able to cut out the rest of the area and attach 1x angle aluminum and make it work but never got it perfect.

I think the factory cases are fine for on the road. But, I always feared what would happen if I had a wreck, as the plastic case would probably fail and I'd have no rack the strap it back on to.

Resurrecting an old post (it is risen :)).... I have a broken plastic latch on one side case. Been Googling OEM ST10 panniers parts list with no success. Any suggestions or knowledge from this group to source a latch (or another box if someone has one...right side please)?

PS. Backstory. Rode my bike 400 miles to a wedding a few years ago and the lock failed. I had to have my stuff so popped the lid. Epoxied for a while but eventually failed. Thus need a new larch. Although running without the latch has been pretty problem free. Just not lockable.

Cheers!
I spent a year with a cam strap from front to back holding my right side closed. It actually was convenient to have more frequently used stuff in that pannier. I just loosened the strap and slid it off the edge to access stuff the slid it back over the top and tightened it. Way quicker than using the key. I had no expectations of security with the stock cases as a screwdriver would pop them right open, breaking the latch.
