I am possibly purchasing a 2015 Super Tenere ES in the next few days. Does that model have built in Pannier brackets? If so do only the OEM Yamaha panniers fit those brackets or are there other options?

The OE box mounts are very discreet, but are add-ons. And the OE mounts can only be used with OE boxes. There was a somewhat limited RAID Edition a few years back that came with Givi boxes. The are a better box, but when they not on the bike, the mounts are quite visible. I rarely use my OEs so I appreciate the low profile of the brackets. But if you're going to do a lot of traveling, you might want to look at different boxes.

Been using oem's reliably since 2012 and count on them. There are stronger boxes, but as @Sierra1 states the mounts are very discreet. With very occasional light lube and a little cleaning they've worked ideally for me. This site has excellent reference for the PM. Never had one operational failure in 3 sets. Best luck however you.

I like my OE boxes as well. Never a drop of water inside and they look the best on or off the bike. Once you learn to press down on the lid as you turn the key to open, or close them, they are never a problem with broken keys.

Fun fact: OE boxes will hold a case (24 12oz cans) of beer, Coke, or whatever you're drinkin', perfectly. Even the left side. A person could probably even get some crushed ice in there with drinks. But that's likely getting close to the weight limit.

I have a liking for the OE boxes also, problem free, easy on off setup and great for daily trips or even as a grocery runner.
I have a set of Musko soft panniers for the once a year off the grid excursion but in reality the OE boxes are 90% of the time mounted and the Musko's collecting dust waiting for the next excursion.

I would like better latches, like the FJR or ST1300's. But like others have stated, take a little care opening/closing the OEs and they should last. I even put a squirt of my garage door opener lube down in interior. Couldn't tell much of a difference, but its lube that doesn't gather dust.

My OEM boxes have done 90,000 traveling all over the western US and Canada. I also dropped the bike a couple times on each side off road. They have a few scratches and dings but are still sound and water tight.
One of the reasons I chose them is that they are among the narrowest setups available. Living in California this is an important consideration for lane splitting.
Also, there’s no gen1 or gen2 OEM boxes or racks, they’re the same for both gens.

I picked up a 2013 3 years ago with oem boxes. Then I read all the hype about Jesse boxes and found a pretty good deal locally on a pair. Sold off my oem set, but wish I hadn't. Found I didn't need the capacity of the Jesses and my spot to park in my garage is narrow so I have to take the boxes off to park the bike. The Jesses aren't too bad, but the oems were vastly better for mounting and dismounting. Now I have both buyer's and seller's remorse, but I still have some good boxes. Once you put some blue loctite on the tiny lock cylinder screws and learn to push down on the lid when locking and unlocking, the oem boxes are pretty trouble-free.

The OEM Yammy side cases are more than adequate. They are quite functional with an excellent modular design.
In black they look best IMHO as they have a quasi-military equipment (a very large ammo box, gotta feed "Ma Deuce"!) vibe.
Yes the case lid latches require a certain way about them for opening and closing as well as the case release/attach levers
and the case lock tumbler housings have to be Loctited every few years but all these actions are so automatic to me by now
it has become second nature and takes absolutely no extra time.
Lastly, they have never let me down in any way....

I just got rid of mine today. Had enough of the plastic brackets chipping away every time I would lay the bike down on a dirt road.
but, I replaced them with Touratech Tacks and Tusk Pilot bags.

Anyone know if you can buy the rubber inserts that the oem panniers sit on by the foot peg...been taking my grandkids for rides and i think they've knocked them off.
Had a look up inside the panniers incase they were there - nope

'Currently not available' Interesting i see they fit FJR and FJ9.
Good thread that also has Checkswrecks suggestion on how to make replacements.
