Just heard a huge bang in the garage, went to investigate and one of the garage door springs has snapped and smashed into the tank of my bike. Nasty ragged dent in the tank. The dodgy garage door has been noted on the last few inspections, landlord better have his insurance paid up cos he is paying for this one!
I imagine it will mean a new tank, doubt it could be repaired...

On the bright side, if the insurance company lets you keep it you can have Jaxson make you a big tank.

I'm in Australia though so shipping to and fro would be hard!
Will definitely try to keep the tank though, I have some mates with decent fabrication skills.

That sucks.....I just replaced my garage door springs last year because they were so badly worn. They are suppose to have a safety cable going through them so they don't go flying around when they break...I'd mention that to him as well. I'm surprised the inspector didn't mention that....maybe he did?

Good Luck

well, it could have been worse.
It could have hit someone standing near by.
The landlord should count himself lucky that bikes can't sue.

Good news for you is Tenere body panels are a hell of a lot cheaper than most bikes. I can get a new tank for my ST for $750 retail. Better than the $950 my R1 would have been.

Make sure you demand a new tank . A repair would be unacceptable, in my opinion. Sorry about your bad luck, mate.

Had a better look in the day light, there are more areas damaged than I originally saw, but they are not as bad. The main part is not as bad as I thought, imagine getting a very large rusty spring and hitting the tank!
The majority is just paint damage with only a minor dent at the main part.
Highly doubt I will get a new tank (although I will chase that as a quote, it may work out cheaper) the radiator side silver cowl has a decent scrape on it as well.
Just lucky the wife's car wasn't in there at the time as well.
Really lucky my son wasn't nearby. It would have killed him if it hit him in the head.

Now to think if it would be worth getting a custom colour done instead of back to standard!!!

Any thoughts? I quite like the blue and silver, but a one off colour would be cool too!

In my mind a repaired and repainted tank is not the same as a factory finished undamaged tank, which is what you had before the spring let loose. If insurance is covering it I would ask for a new one.

Is your landlord a B%^stard always demanding that things are up to date and paid OR else?
If yes it's new parts time.
If no then maybe a 30Litre conversion with new colours. ::024::

But the repaired route needs to be done properly. Lot's of dodgy repairers out there as well.

I always go for new replacements, unless there is some benefit to gain from spending the same money on "repairs".

In maters of neglect causing damage, my policy is return to as good if not better than it was Plus a bit for the inconvenience.

It's a non-issue in the U.S. Bike parts get replaced, not repaired.

I'll be pushing for replacement. New tank and new side fairing fitted will likely run close to $2000 if not more. My insurance company has said that they will cover it but will then be chasing the landlord for the money, so it is in his best interests to sort it without my insurance company getting involved, as he will be paying either way.

Just thank God that you were not polishing your tank at the time of impact. ::012::

Absolutely, I was planning on fitting my raid toolbox this morning so would have been right in the firing line when I opened the garage to let some light in.

Caution all Super Tenere owners, this morning after closing my garage door behind my Tenere I heard a loud bang :'( my right side garage door spring broke into. At least I am lucky it is a torque spring so nothing flew around but I can't get the bike, car, anything out until I get a professional repairman to replace it those springs like mine are a bitch to replace and re-load tension on.

Thats a drag , mine went the day before I was to leave for Colarado. started to panic tried to get the bike out the side door with no luck. I did find a guy to come out on a Sunday $300 later for the two springs.
