My symptoms were exactly as you have. The dealer inspected all wiring and connections. They could not find anything. I think that reading some other threads that they may have run wires in the same loom that should not run parallel to eash other and this is causing cross talk. This could cause incorrect sensor voltage values that the ECU cannot process correctly.

I was pretty sure I read other people on here had reran all their wiring and still had the issue occur

Before you start getting into the wiring harness, have you covered the basics, such as throttle slack, rigging of the throttle switch, and rigging of the throttle position sensor?

I am not sure why there is questions about Throttle slack, Throttle position sensor, etc... If it were any of these things why would cycling the ignition fix the problem for that moment. I also know that Yamaha would not pay to install a wiring harness free of charge out of warranty for two different people if there was not a known issue. Mileageman and I both had the same issue. We both got our wiring harness replaced and both of us have had zero issues afterwards.

Glad the new harness worked for you two - it did not for Sail2XXS.

The reason for mentioning the TPS and related bits is because we've had some members have the TPS go bad or stick. I'd used the word "switch" in my above post by memory, but it's the acceleration sensor. What/how to check them is here:

ugh, happening again this morning. Temperature has dropped like 30* but still this cannot be acceptable right?!?

Today has been the worst its ever been. Code 60 each time, and any time i pull in clutch long enough for rpm to drop it just dies. Probably happened 8 - 10 times on my 2 mile commute to work.

I have a big 4000 mile trip in 7 days, man I hope I can get it into a shop and resolved in time.

I have never received a code after over two years of dealing with this issue.
I noticed when I watched the YouTube video with the guy that rerouted his stator bundle it was buried deeper into his cluster, like under the tank mine was fairly open and away under the throttle bodies assembly closer to the upper transmission casing with little effort to pull it through.
I am guessing following the schematic map on how to lay out the harness on the assembly line at the factory does not have a set standard? This leads me to believe 1. only random bikes have this issue. 2. QC is or was lacking at the factory. And 3. After the Tsunami people may not have their minds on work?
My throttle cable has always been backed off just a hair from full. When I did the Stator harness while it was running I did tug and tap the cluster on the right side cover off.
I found you could indeed get the throttle to react in a bad way just like when the issue starts rearing it's ugly head without notice.
SERIOUSLY>>>us poor unfortunate ones need to contact each other (PM ME) team up and demand some Yamaha heads to fix our dangerous and frustrating issue. We deserve better treatment . Why haven't we heard anything like this from the generation 2 owners? My theory and I have voiced this many times on these threads Yamaha knew of this issue and fixed it without posting a recall for all Generation 1 owners to have a new wiring harness installed, we had 3 recalls I think it's time for a forth.
I am up for it I posted a thread awhile back with a link to NHTSA and submit a complaint.. I know some of you posted you filed but don't see your complaints on the site, What's up guys? I am the only person that filed a complaint about this issue (Under electrical unknown) all i see is about spokes breaking and the faulty light harness!! and some just shrugged it off and now own the Generation 2 or another brand and passed the issue to another buyer VIA private sale or a trade in!

It takes five minutes of your time and may get this problem resolved.

I broke down and took it into shop. With the trip right around the corner its my best bet at being fixed ::010::

Had to ride it 30 miles to a shop I trust, and once i got off freeway it still was dying everytime I would try to slow down or stop. Unfortunately the shop cannot get to it until monday, so looking like im not going on this trip ::007::

I wish you the best. If it helps my bike was fixed by Temecula Motorsports in Temecula CA. The service manager Mike was the guy that worked this issue with Yamaha.

Thanks 911. Its at the shop and I have called yamaha customer relations and have a ticket open on the matter to hopefully speed up the fixing issue if the dealership cannot get it figured out. Ill keep everyone updated.

Shop just called me. The issue on the bike is being consistent, which is good I guess. They are thinking its the ECU, but they cannot get a unit to test it until friday best case, more likely tues / wed next week.

My ECU was not flashed. I wanted to but I was not about to have that be thrown back at me as the issue. I will be looking at it in the near future once I get a few thousand miles in the bag.

$1600, wow! They occasionally show up on ebay from wrecked bikes. Usually around $500. I picked up a working, but physically damaged one two years ago for under $100, just to experiment with.

Shop just called back and said mechanic put old ecu in, rode it for a bit and problem came back as expected. Returned to shop, installed new ecu and did another test and ran great. Guess ecu is to blame. Shop says there is a 30 day warranty so im gonna have a buddy ride it for the 30 days as he rides every day and make sure no issues.

I know i could get one myself cheaper, and $1600 is parts and labor. $1200 for ecu from yamaha themselves, new online i was seeing about $1000 so not too bad. Also not sure a 14 es ecu would work in a 13. Ill try to get the bike in next day or two
