Time to shop for a nice skid plate too.
Hoping it's just a loose oil filter
Hoping it's just a loose oil filter
….It's only going to be $430 for parts and labour....
I hope you put this behind you and start enjoying the bike soon.Just got a call from my Yamaha dealer. It's not covered due to it being the result of something hitting the bike which they could see the impact on the skid plate and the mounting screw being bent about 45°. It's only going to be $430 for parts and labour. Not the worst thing, could have been worse, especially if I had slipped on the oil that coated the rear wheel. I should have the bike back by this weekend. Once I get home from work I'm going to order a proper skid plate.
Definitely the lesser of the two evils!Just got a call from my Yamaha dealer. I have read this by others also, They must have changed the design at one time. Mine would be a very early batch and I have no trouble at all changing the oil filter with the plate on.The Altrider skid plate does need to be removed to remove the filter, but it's not a big deal.
My filter has about 3/4" clearance from the front of the plate. I can't remember how long the threads are, but I don't think there's enough room. I too, am not likely to venture very far off road. Mainly for curbs, and parking stops, and small children. I DID like that there were no cut outs, or vent holes in the leading face of the plate; nothing to catch on.….They must have changed the design at one time....The OP said very little off roading for him, The ALT plate is bare minimum for off road use. They do get bent up easy.
