Hey everyone, new member long time rider here. Just pulled the trigger on a brand spanking new 2018 S10 ES of the floor for a killer price that I could not pass up with the 4 year warranty. Traded in my 2012 NC700X for it and couldn't be more happier. The NC was great on mpg but the power was a let down on my 200 mile daily commute to work everyday. Been reading through the forum gathering up some great info on the S10.

Welcome to the forum. Maybe you need a FJR instead! The FJR can fold time and space when you down shift 2 gears and whack the throttle. You need all the time savings you can get with that commute. ;)

FJR, just not my type of bike. Lol. The S10 I think so far is filling my need of a power missing from the NC. Cant wait for the break in period to get over with..lol.

Just remember, it says no sustained high rpm. No need to baby it or avoid higher rpms, just don't hang out there at a steady high rpm droning along. Hope your kids schools are truly great! I'd move before I did that commute.

Been doing the commute since 2016, first two years were on a 2011 ZX10R and my body finally couldn't take it anymore that's when I got NC but it just wasn't cutting it for me for the last year.lol. I believe it or not I actually enjoy my long commute from San Diego to San Bernadino, I vary my route from freeway, coastal or mountains. I have plenty of options on my way to work.

I've put 500 miles on it since purchased yesterday, breaking it in driving in SoCal traffic and through the mountains. Been fighting to stay away from using cruise control until the break in period is over.

I used to live in Irvine for a few years, so know your area fairly well. Great riding options. I do miss the coast. Sounds like you have a good handle on the break in period. Do change the final drive at the first engine oil change. It's usually got gunk in there. A lot are using Valvoline SynPower 75W90 GL5. Runs a little cooler than the Yamalube Extreme, which is also good stuff.

Thanks for the heads up on the oil. This is my first shaft driven motorcycle, I'll have to read the how to.

Welcome from Texas. I could NOT do that commute daily. We might find out how long this motor will last though. Long Haul Paul will likely have some high mileage company.

Wow 200 miles a day round trip for work that’s a lot of miles, like more than 50,000 miles per year !
Congratulations on the new Tenere .

M-F but once in awhile I'll drive my car depending on how I feel. Although I'll try to avoid driving on 4 wheels as the traffic in SoCal sucks....

Welcome aboard ricerooster!

Wow, 200 miles a day commute - especially in your area! I used to commute 85 a day round trip when I lived in southern Colorado, but most of that was scenic mountain riding (Ute Pass, etc) except for the last 5 miles across Colorado Springs.

Enjoy the new Tenere!!

Welcome aboard! I know SoCal traffic all too well, its what got me on the street on 2 wheels to begin with. I can empathize with the commute; although I didn't do it everyday I used to be responsible for locations in Orange, LA, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, while living in OC.
