RC in NC, then you need to buy a FJR. I really like the ST and briefly had it to 99mph (still breaking in so taking it easy) but the FJR just cruised so easily at insane speeds. I rode the Extraterrestrial across Nevada and don't think I was ever below 100mph. The bike was just so smooth and vibration free at insane speeds. Having said this I don't know if owning one in the east would be a good idea as the speeds limits are usually lower than western USA and Canada so a FJR might get you thrown in jail...
BINGO - And that's one reason both Dirt Dad and I sold ours. You could hit 95 on the ON ramp and still be in third gear.

Been busy adding goodies to the ST. Also, today I rode to Llano, Texas followed by a long way home for almost 300 miles total. During this ride I realized the ST brings back some memories of my youth. I grew up riding dirt bikes and racing in enduroes just to provide some background. Well today I missed a turn and the ST can turn a rather tight Uturn. When I finished lunch it was easier to ride off the curb to the street versus backing up so I did. Later in the afternoon one parking lot wasn't connected to another so I jumped the curb, rode over a short piece of grass, over another curb into the other parking lot (pulled into Home Depot and wanted to get a drink at the neighboring gas station and didn't want to go back out to the road). Doing these things brought back memories of riding dirtbikes or dualsport machines of my youth. The FJR was a great bike but I never rode it off curbs and doing Uturns took some skill. A fun bike. :)

The Tenere can hop curbs, and carry a ton of stuff; then, if you find a nice, twisted, paved road, it will do a great impression of a sport bike. The bike does everything. ::001::

I hope one of the goodies you added was a skidplate because the bike has two Achiles Heels and one is the thin sump cover. Landing on a parking stone can push the cast boss up and create a hole, dumping all your oil.

The other is dropping on the left side. On a smooth surface it's not a problem, but a few people have managed to push the fan into the radiator.

Checkswrecks, I don't have a skid plate and wasn't going to add one because this is my road bike. However, now as seeing I don't seem to be able to control myself with going over curbs, I'm shopping. ::)

::026:: I ended up with an Altrider skid plate, and Mastech crash bars. (everybody has their preferences though) I'm not a hard core off roader, but "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". ::001::
