Looks like at 1000 cc this is a bit above the mid size 800 bikes and a bit below the 1200 class. Should be very interesting for the guys who really like to ride their S10's in the dirt vs pavement. Would this be TB(real)DBITW? ;D
Fred I'm still thinking we will have the biggest at least that's what I'm thinking when I pick it up. ;D Feels real enough
I hope it's a great bike and sells well. Wish Honda hadn't mess things up for the Canadians. I bet 90 percent of us has owned a Honda at one point in our lives.

I'd be anxious to try a DCT. as long as this new Honda motor has S10 torque. The bike will be very expensive and hard to get the first few years is my bet. By then they'll have the bugs worked out and I'll be ready to replace my S10. I'm a big fan of my Yamaha so it'll really have be good.

you see my point.....
That said, my buddy Wone Yip is now working on the Pro Am-Honda side. Known him for years, great guy to deal with.
As far as service...well I do my own. Warranty should not be an issue.

like everything with Honda, they will probably try to convince everyone it's the best thing since sliced bread, and needs to be priced way above market value.
I would not be surprised if honda asks anywhere from $15500 to $18500 (based on some rumblings from europe at a price of 12k euro) for a base model...
It remains to be seen.

Regarding DCT -- a friend let me borrow his DCT VFR1200 for the afternoon last year. I went in fully expecting to hate it, but much to my surprise I found it to be very impressive and enjoyable. I remember thinking if I lived in an urban area it would be the only tranny I'd want. It was cool to use the bar shifters in sport mode for manual shifting. Full auto would be great for the city. Just a versatile and impressive piece of tech in my opinion.

From the various press releases I've read on the new CRF1000, the DCT has been modified and tailored for off-road riding. No specifics were given -- we'll know more before long I imagine -- but it appears it won't be just an off the shelf DCT as previously offered. I'm certainly keeping an open mind about the DCT option.

The dirty pictures are like looking at........um.....dirty pictures. Wicked cool.
I'm a bit weak in the knees over it.
An XT750Z could, maybe, sway me back in Yamaha's direction.

Am I dreaming or is this genre getting dirtier?

It's a Honda ! That means it'll be Spendy, delicate , very complicated and a Royal PITA to work on AND after 2yrs of production, Honda will cease building it , then you'll be stuck with a worthless "Albatross" that no one will want.
Yamaha has a statistically proven track record as the most reliable, trouble free ,best built motorcycles in the world.
I'll stick with my S10 !

Some of the former may be true to some extent, but as for the latter... by "albatross" do you mean the same kind that the TransAlps and older AfricaTwins are? Have you seen how fast they sell and at decent prices at ADVrider? Scarcity and reputation are exactly what make a US-legal older model Africa Twin cost so damn much. I am lucky to have a buddy here in town with a pristine version of one that I adore. I am pretty sure I would pay whatever he asked for it if he offered it to me tomorrow.

I'm betting $20grand here in Canada which would put it squarely between a GS12 and KTM 1190.
They are taking deposits on it already.

It will be interesting to see the spec sheet, price, and throw a leg over.

Must resist urge to open wallet ;D. If i have self control i will keep my S10 until the extended warranty expires in 2017, this bike's been good to me so no rush to unload it. Plus, by then there should be plenty of worthy successors, the crf1000l would definitely be one of them. The real question is how much self control do i really have >:D

By the way i think i would choose the dct version because it would be like having a rekluse clutch only better. I have a rekluse on my wr450f and after initially hating it i absolutely love it now and would not ride another dirtbike without one.

Ah yes, the grass is always greener on the other side. I just heard about this bike. Seems to be getting some "hype" here although there seems to be lack of info about it. Ok, it's a 1000cc parallel twin adventure bike and????? I read "targeted" dry weight is 440lbs. = lots of plastic or high cost materials? I admit it sounds "promising". However, Honda is not creating a new segment. They are getting back into one that exists. I'm sure they've done their homework and it will be competitive for the market it is targeted for. I like Honda's but, this bike would have to be damn good to replace the Tenere. My grass is plenty green ;D, thank you.

Now if Honda go the same route as their XLR 750 R and have it shaft drive then I'll have my wallet open for that one.
However I rode a friends XLR 750 for a couple of hundred miles, thought it was bloody boring. Not something to aspire to for the new one.
