Thanks for the great practical tips! Maybe instead of Touring and Sport modes, I will call them Testing and Stable modes :) and first change I will make to the test mode is to lower fan temp so I can see that the changes actually go through.

And AVC you read my mind and answered the question I did not yet ask about the engine braking. I remember reading about some scary engine braking experiment, maybe that was you.

People have been reporting about the flash making the bike run smoother and fixing surging or off-idle stumble, do you know why would it fix it exactly? I have no idea what could cause it so obviously have no clue what I could try in the flash to fix it.
When you work on your throttle maps, make sure your 0 and 1 maps have similar low rpm/low throttle areas. This prevents a significant change in TPS as the clutch is released.

I have a simple question. If you are standing there with your ECU in hand how long does it take to hook up and use the software to download a map into the ECU, in minutes. No other adjustments simply in an existing map?

<10, probably closer to ~5.

I have downloaded the Flash-Tune software and may purchase the harness but have
A few questions. Thanks.
1. Is the "unrestricted" tune file available for download the same tune file that would
be installed if I mailed in my ECU to Flash-Tune for the $200 flash?
2. Can the harness be removed after flashing or does it need to remain connected?

1. I am not sure. I suggest you call Flash Tune and ask. That is NOT the file I flash.
2. The intent of the bike harness is that it remains permanently attached to the bike to facilitate future flashing:

Can anyone confirm if our ECU has LTFT (long term fuel trim) or STFT (short term fuel trim) tables?

Aka, does it "learn" or self adjust any? (Factory uses this to adjust for elevation and/or bad fuel)

Back when I was into MazdaSpeed3 ecu's there was always a step you needed to take to calibrate your ECU to your intake properly, and then whenever you did a flash you had to wait until your LTFT stabilized before you could really see proper results from your changes.

I'm not sure if our ECU's are that sophisticated though?

I know of what you are speaking, and have some experience with it in the car world also (GTO).

IF the Yamaha has that, it is not "unlocked" in the FT software. In the FT software you have access to TPS vs RPM, MAP vs RPM, MAP vs TPS blend, and injector timing with regards to fuel controls.

I just ordered this kit yesterday and planned to flash my ECU along with 2 of my local riding buddies. We planned to split the cost to make it better on the wallet. When I ordered I was informed that in Mid June Flash Tune will be requiring a $100 license fee for every ECU flashed. They told me that I was good for 1 month but then the party is over. I thought I would pass this info along to you all. After mid June each owner of a S10 will be required to do there own flash or apply for a license for $100 for each additional ECU you want to flash. Hope this helps anyone on the fence make a decision.

That's been the rumor around the industry for quite some time now. We aren't sure how they will implement it.

It's all good. It makes sense. This way Flash Tune can get a little coin to keep the business going while dyno shops and flashers can still work.

I plan to hold my flash price steady through this. FT will just get a cut. That is fine with me.

I installed the bike harness yesterday on my 2012 (70) ECU and attempted to load the unrestricted 70 map. It communicates and the green status bar moves through like it's flashing but after writing I get error codes from Rx12 to Rx7E to Rx6 to no response from ECU. I put a ticket in yesterday but haven't got a response yet. After flash I run the engine and the fan turns on at 219 not 205 like the file is set to so I am thinking flash didn't take. My question is do you guys see a flash successful message after flashing or? What should I see if the flash is successful? TIA

Thank you very much for the help you so graciously volunteered. With your help I was easily able to complete the flash last night after work. ::012:: The bike runs great and I will be leaving for a 2 day ride in a few minutes but wanted to thank you in public so other folks know how much of a stand up guy you really are. ::024:: ::003::

If anyone is curious as to the problem I had, it turns out the install directions that Flash-Tune provides are incorrect and AC knew right away how to correct them. ::008::

Can you elaborate on this for those of us that have the FT software but have not flashed our bikes yet?

If your instructions say to ignore the brown wire, you need to contact me.

I hit a couple of issues on my flashing project. First one was that my bike was actually a 2011 bike despite being sold to me from a dealer as 2012, so I have the -00 ECU. I was planning on sending my ecu to be read during the winter so I could flash it for the next season. Luckily someone already did that and the -00 is available in the software. The second issue was that the installation instructions were wrong for the -00 so there was some hassle with that, but I did get the ecu flashed with the bench harness. All I have changed for now is the throttle and fan temps and those worked ok.

I just had 20 000km maintenance done and they increased the CO setting to 12 to richen it up, apparently the plugs showed that it has been running slightly lean. I have the akrapovic slip-on so I guess my next test will be to import the akra map from powercommander. I also have a powercommander for the bike, got it for my troubles from the dealer so maybe I install that aswell and get it tuned at a dyno or something. Local tuner had never seen ftecu program but he was thinking that there should be no problems tuning the bike with that instead of a powercommander so maybe I will see if they can do that for me.

Thanks to whom ever sent their -00 for a read! :)

Hi Guys, this seems to be the perfect solution for me, can somebody confirm that the 91 oct based map removes the timing restriction in 1-2-3 gears?
From the website "- Removal of all gear based or speed dependent restrictions, TRE"
Did not see it discussed in this tread, is it a function of timing values in the timing tables?...
Will introduce myself in the proper section...
