Where's the "inside" pics?oKLRider said:Am I crazy, or is there a thread somewhere discussing the new/old CCTs...side by side?
They look about damn near identical, inside and out....?
Nothing that anyone could figure out that matters. The stock CCT has a pressurized oil feed to provide damping. The manual one blocks this feed off.Toxic Mark said:In another thread, Carrot wrote the following...
"i won't be installing anymore manual cam chain tensioner they don't supply you with anything to block the oil passage the last one i did on my R6 i used JB weld and was always worried it might become loose and screw up the engine and its hard to tell if you have it adjusted right ."
What is he talking about?
I've spoken to those guys. They don't specifically offer a tensioner for the Super Tenere. They did point out that the Tenere CCT gasket is the same PN as the R1 so they believe their R1 CCT will fit the Tenere.carrot said:
Effed up and forgot to take inside pics before installing.avc8130 said:Where's the "inside" pics?
If you take them apart, you will see they ARE different. Better? No one knows.
I have had my 14 CCT in from 38k miles to the current 42k. I get the feeling that at the 52k valve adjustment I'll be swapping to a manual unit.
ac
It has not been installed yet It comes with a gasket that seals the oil channel hole, I don't foresee it being an issue.carrot said:so Ramseybella does the instruction that came with the tct say to block off the oil supply hole and if so how did you block yours
Install the tensioner. There is nothing to do with the oil hole. The tensioner covers the hole. The gasket seals it so it doesn't leak.carrot said:The gasket has nothing to do with the oil supply hole it just seals the mating surface between the engine and timing chain tensioner. what does the instructions say that came with the tensioner.
My new '14 tensioner gave me silence... well, no loud random clatter on start up. It was perfect for a couple hundred miles when the off idle clatter started up. The same loud random clatter I used to have at start up. Now it's steady as long as you hold that rpm. Comes on when warmed up, silent till then.Toxic Mark said:Crap. I guess screw it and ride. I ordered the new CCT and installed it just as these posts about the new CCT making noise started coming out.
Yes, I ordered a manual CCT, but I'm just going to leave it as is until it starts making funny noises and then change it to the manual. If it never makes a noise...fine. If it does, it's not like it's horrifically difficult to change the CCT.
Just so I have an idea of when to start keeping an ear out, for those that are hearing noise with their new CCT about how many miles did you have on the new CCT before it started making the noise?
Great Question. Mine was updated under YES Warranty. No Startup Clacking any more, but the engine itself is pretty noisy to start with. Is it noticeably quieter with a Manual CCT?dcstrom said:Well this is annoying to here about these noises coming from the '14 tensioner. Mine has 5000 miles on it now, totally cured the startup noise, and no weird off-idle rattles that I can discern just yet.
Question: if this is a problem with the tensioner, why have there been no reports (that I have seen) of the 2014's with this noise? Might mean it's something to do with the way it's installed? Mine was done by a tech at Yamaha Motor France, I expect he's pretty experienced with Yamaha tensioners... maybe that's why mine is not noisy. He DID mention he did my valve clearances (just for the hell of it? there was only 2 incorrect, and they were just barely out of spec), which means he pulled the cams to install the tensioner. I have no clue how this might make a difference, I haven't been in there myself.
