Roberto,

I am looking at your photos and noticed something odd.
What is the radiator looking thing at the front of your engine in the last photo looking from behind down your intake ports?
Roberto installed an oil cooler and relocated the filter.

Yes ... it is an oil cooler .... bought it from Demon Tweeks UK together with the thermostat enabled sandwich adapter for the oil filter which had to be reduced in length (I'm using a filter specified for some model of the Yamaha Quads) ... the engine temperature is kept lower and the radiator fan very seldom starts when riding in city full of traffic.

I took my new CCT to Yamaha and they told me it was OK ... probably will take my stripped down bike to their shop and tell them to install ... if they mess it up then they will have to fix it. Will cost some money but I wouldn't try it myself again.

Cheers,
Roberto

Same rattle issue here. Didn't do it right off when I installed the tensioner a couple weeks ago. Just now changed out to 20-50, no change. I now have a pan full of new $30 10-40... ::010:: Went from the loud random clack/rattle on start up to a nice quiet start with a steady rpm clack/rattle after warm-up. I can get it to rattle as low as 12-1300 rpm, but yeah, 2000 is a good, bad? and steady rattle. Gonna go ahead and order the manual one listed before they all get back-ordered too.
Oh, and while the whine is being served, my new clutch basket has a new gear whine. Love the basket's weight effect on the motor, and the whine isn't as bad as the Royal Star's was, just wasn't expecting the meshing gears to be any louder than the one that came off.
There is a note in the service manual stating if replacing a noisy clutch basket to also replace the crankshaft along with it.

Interesting!!
Can you send photos of this rig?
OK ... here some photos

This came on the mail

relocating the brake line manifold and horn

the cooler (16 row) installed with metal holders ... replaced now with strong plastic tie wraps

size difference between normal and reduced oil filter canisters

the oil filter sandwich plate in position ... had to take 2 mm from the base to make it tight

I have a 21 inch front wheel and modified fender ... the cooler took a hit but is now repositioned further back ...

with the new oil filter in place ... testing for leaks

connecting the hoses

perfect

a look from the right side ... now the cooler is further back

If you need actual photos or details just ask them
Cheers,
Roberto

I think im getting the 'new' rattle with the 2014 CCT... It doesn't seem to make any noise at start up, that's good... But when its hot it seems to be louder than the old one at idle.............

Anyone else ?

I think we may have gotten a Chubby to prematurely with the new designed CCT, don't know yet but also don't want to start anything negative until we get more long term reports on premature rattles..

Page 5-61 and 5-62. Have not checked, but assuming the primary drive gear is part of the crankshaft that can't be replaced separately. Was odd that I had read this in the service manual Sunday and then a comment on Monday about noise when one gear replaced without the other.

:D When Hell Freezes over!!

The only reason I avoided a Manual CCT is Yamaha will not cover any damage that has to do with the head, Cams cam chain and such if any of these CCT related damages happen with the manual unit.
I have till 2017 until my Warranty expires.

I know. Imagine what is going to happen when someone tries to make a warranty claim and Yamaha sees that clutch basket has been replaced without replacing the crankshaft :D

Gear whine. :( Nobody else seems to have heard it. That's a good percentage, I'll take it for now. They changed my basket on the Royal Star once to address the whine, no change. So gear whine is a low issue for me. I wanna iron out the clatter. The grumble is OK, no clatter please.

I agree. I wouldn't be concerned about a little whine. Just odd that that Yamaha suggests replacing as a pair.
Are you getting the whine at a certain RPM. Have a friend that has had a whine with his Tenere that I have never experienced. Want to say at 4000 RPM.

What's the drawback to using a manual cam chain tensioner?
Chance of adjusting it too loose or too tight. Many of them in use especially on older bikes.
