Need luggage guards for soft luggage. Which one?

I mount a large bag across the rear pillion and rack, so rarely need saddlebags. However, there are a couple times each year when a set of saddlebags would come in handy.
I had a set of the Nelson Rigg CL-850 saddlebags sitting on the shelf and thought I'd mount them for a trip.
After a couple hours of figiting and fitting and measureing, I've decided that a set of luggage guards would be of great benefit.

Can someone recommend something?

They'll be used a couple times a year. Doesn't have to be anything really fancy. Once the trip(s) over, they will be removed and put on the shelf until the next trip.

Yes, I've already tried turning the grab handle over and a few of the other tips and tricks that I found on this forum. At this point, I'm really wanting some sort of bolt-on saddlebag guard.

Thanks,

Kevin

If you google 'universal saddlebag guards' you will see some various options that might be workable on the S10, or at least some ideas for something you could make up yourself.

A chunk of conduit, a hammer oe vise to flatten the ends and a bender would get you something workable and cheap. Drill a couple of holes and sandwich the flattened ends at the grab handle mounts.

Rumbux offers a set up for the XT660 Tenere, but not the XT1200Z Super Tenere. But that might give you an idea of what they did.

i have a pair of saddlebag brackets I will sell to you for $100. They even have the quick connect to the bike for when you aren't using them. I think they are Sw Motech.

Seems like that would be more practical, as you only use saddlebags a few times a year. Easy on and off and a good price.

I threw my Nelson Riggs over my Givi racks before I got my Pelican setup worked out. It worked just perfect.

Buy those SW Motech brackets Fred is offering. Then if you want to go hard bag, you will be $200 ahead of the game.

I think the HoebSTer is selling those and I intend to get them - just as soon as he replies to my PM.

Yup. My bad.

As a side note: I highly recommend you get dry bags for inside those Nelson Riggs. The rain covers are hokey and pretty much fly off.

And remember, the grab handles can be swapped side for side and turned upside down to provide soft bag support.

Good reminder, Don, but he says in the first post that he already tried that:

"Yes, I've already tried turning the grab handle over and a few of the other tips and tricks that I found on this forum. At this point, I'm really wanting some sort of bolt-on saddlebag guard."

Guess I got busy and forgot to post that Rumbux now has soft bag pannier brackets for the Super Tenere now! I have a set coming in mid May that are not spoken for. $200 shipped to your door. I'll post a pic or two when I get home tonight.

CL850? The only CL850 I know of are the Nelson Rigg saddlebags.

Give me a call at 435-817-0809 sometime between 9am and 9pm MDT and I'll hook you up with the set that will be arriving around mid May.
